Tokyo, Japan

3 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Learn authentic Japanese home cooking from Michiko, a professional cooking teacher who has taught Japanese locals for years. Unlike a demonstration-style class, this is a hands-on experience where you prepare traditional dishes from scratch while learning the techniques, ingredients and cultural traditions behind them. Choose between two distinct experiences when booking: make handmade udon noodles from dough, including the traditional technique of stomping the dough, or prepare katsudon, one of Japan’s most popular comfort foods and a dish familiar to many anime fans. With a small-group setting, Michiko can provide personal guidance throughout the class. The experience is also family-friendly, making it a fun way for both adults and children to experience Japanese food culture in Tokyo.

Itinerary

Duration: 3 hours (approximately)
  • Ikegami Station (Pass by)

Meet Michiko at her cooking studio, just a 5-minute walk from Ikegami Station, for a 2.5-hour, hands-on small-group Japanese cooking class in Tokyo. Choose your preferred class when booking. Select the Udon Class to make thick, chewy udon noodles completely from scratch, from kneading and traditionally stomping the dough to rolling and cutting the noodles by hand. Prepare your fresh udon in a flavorful pork noodle soup with a traditional sesame spinach side dish. Or select the Katsudon Class to make this Japanese comfort-food favorite: a crispy pork cutlet served over rice with egg and a savory-sweet sauce, accompanied by homemade miso soup and sesame spinach. As you cook, Michiko will share Japanese ingredients, techniques and culinary traditions. Finish by sitting down together to enjoy the meal you prepared. Family-friendly and suitable for adults and children.
