Meet a Buddhist monk at Wat Mahathat, one of Bangkok's most respected temples, for an English language monk chat and a short introduction to meditation on this half day spiritual encounter.
Buddhism has shaped Thai life for centuries, followed by more than 95 percent of the population, and this half day experience offers a rare chance to sit down with a monk and ask your own questions.
After hotel pickup, drive through Bangkok to Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit Rajaworamahavihara, known simply as Wat Mahathat, the Temple of the Great Relic. This important centre for Buddhist studies houses a respected meditation centre and the country's first Buddhist university.
Explore the temple grounds with your guide before joining the monk chat, an initiative that lets visitors speak directly with monks about Buddhism and Thai culture. The session includes a short introduction to meditation and its benefits for mental clarity and calm.

1Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit
The vast majority of the population in Thailand follow Buddhism and this unique experience allows us learn more about this religion and its devotees. We can experience this strong religious experience by meeting a monk at Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit Rajaworamahavihara. This ancient royal Buddhist temple in the Old Town is an important centre for Buddhist studies and houses a well-known meditation centre. It is also the first Buddhist university in the country. Here we will have the amazing opportunity to interact in English with monks to discover more about their role in Thai society and learn about everyday life according to Buddha’s teachings. We even get a short introduction into meditation which is practiced to aid mental contemplation. After gaining a deeper understanding and meaning of Buddhism, you may take a break to let everything sink in before being driven back to your Bangkok downtown hotel.

- This also includes adhering to the strict dress code for this experience. Under no circumstances are customers allowed to wear short trousers (long trousers need to reach the ankles), mini-skirts / knee-length skirts, culottes, tights, fisherman’s trousers, sleeveless shirts/ singlets or any clothing that shows the shoulders, see-through clothing, shirts with obscene and disrespectful prints and pictures and brightly-colored clothing.
- Refusal of operating this excursion if these clothing regulations may be enforced when not respecting this dress code. Visitors must adhere to the regulations set by the temple, and this includes meeting the monk.
- It is not possible to reserve time to have a private conversation with the monk as outlined in the temple’s rules and regulations.
- We always will make efforts to confirm the exact pick-up time upon reservation. For any operational issues in which are not able to confirm the exact pick-up time in advance, we reserve the right to inform you the day before the departure of the tour.
- It is the responsibility of the customer to provide us with the correct hotel information, should pick-up and drop-off services be included in the package. Any changes in accommodation outside 24 hours will be handled accordingly: changes within 24 hours may be on request.
- This experience is not suitable for children.
