Deep in the Klias Forest Reserve, one of Sabah's most precious protected wetlands, a world of extraordinary wildlife awaits. This full-day shared tour takes you from Kota Kinabalu into the mangroves for an unforgettable afternoon and evening on the water.
After a two-hour coastal drive, arrive at Klias River Village Jetty and refresh with coffee, tea, and Malay cakes before boarding your river cruise. Glide through mangrove forests in search of Borneo's iconic proboscis monkeys, bird species, monitor lizards, and crocodiles in a protected reserve where conservation is paramount.
Back at the jetty, a traditional Malay buffet dinner is served as darkness falls. Then the river comes alive as thousands of fireflies illuminate the mangrove banks in a flickering natural light display.
Return transfer to Kota Kinabalu follows in the evening. Note: this tour operates with an English-speaking driver but without a dedicated guide; boat cruises are on a shared basis.

1Klias River Cruise
Cruise through the mangrove forests of the Klias River in search of the proboscis monkey and other exotic wildlife. We are collected from our hotel between 2 pm and 2.30 pm to transfer overland to the Klias Forest Reserve travelling on scenic coastal roads and past picturesque villages taking about two hours.

2Klias Wetlands
Upon arrival at Klias River Village Jetty we refresh with coffee, tea, Malay cakes and biscuits before boarding our river cruise in search of wildlife such as the proboscis monkey, abundant bird species, monitor lizards, crocodiles and other wildlife. We return to the jetty for a traditional Malay buffet dinner and as dusk sets, we reconvene our short river cruise to observe the flickering fireflies lighting up the riverbanks.

In the evening we transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.

- It is the responsibility of the customer to provide us with the correct hotel information, should pick-up and drop-off services be included in the package. Any changes in accommodation outside 48 hours will be handled accordingly: changes within 48 hours may be on request.
- It is recommended to bring a light jacket, trousers, good walking shoes, insect repellent and binoculars with you.
