Walk through Altun Ha’s plazas and temples while your guide explains the Maya city’s history and trade connections, then head into the forest for cave tubing. After the walk and safety briefing, float through the underground river and see the limestone formations from the water. No island hotel pickup. Travel independently to the San Pedro or Caye Caulker water taxi terminal, check in, and board on your own. Buy your ticket unless the option says Water Taxi Included. Meet your guide outside the Belize City terminal exit.

Altun Ha is the nearest excavated Maya Temple to Belize City and is probably the most visited by belizean school children from all over the country. This beautiful Maya Temple whose name means “Rockstone Water” has wide-open spaces.

2Franks Eddy
At Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve near Frank’s Eddy, reached from the George Price Highway west of Belize City, receive your helmet, headlamp, life vest, and tube. Walk with your guide through the forest to the river, then float through the limestone cave system while learning about its geology and Maya cultural importance.
