The ATM Cave tour from San Ignacio is distinctive because Actun Tunichil Muknal is both an active wet-cave expedition and a protected Maya ceremonial site. A licensed ATM guide leads the jungle approach, river crossings, swim-in entrance, and route through limestone passages. The physical journey is central to understanding the place: travelers move through water, climb inside the cave, and follow the same natural environment that made the site significant to the ancient Maya. In the ceremonial chambers, pottery, ritual evidence, and human remains remain in place rather than being removed to a museum. Your guide explains what archaeologists have learned. We do not pick up from remote lodges, including Chaa Creek, Black Rock Lodge, or Blancaneaux Lodge. Guests staying outside central San Ignacio must meet the guide at the confirmed central San Ignacio meeting point.

1Atm Cave Belize (actun Tunichil Muknal)
Actun Tunichil Muknal is a demanding guided cave expedition. After the road transfer, hike through the forest, cross streams, enter the cave, and spend up to five hours completing the approach, underground route, archaeological interpretation, safety procedures, and return to the activity base. Travelers must be comfortable with wet, slippery, and uneven conditions and must follow the licensed guide’s instructions.
