Day 01 Arrival - Addis Ababa Up On arrival we will pickup our customers regardless of the arrival time, our representative will meet all customers at the airport and transfer to the Hotel. Optional visit to the Ethnographic Museum, a great introduction to Ethiopian culture and history. If time allows, visit the Mercato, one of Africa's largest outdoor markets, and Trinity Cathedral, resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie. Overnight Hotel
Visit the marketplace in Bahar Dar. Take a boat tour on Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile, and tour ancient island monasteries.
After breakfast, we embark on a picturesque drive through the scenic Ethiopian countryside to the historic city of Gondar. Upon arrival, you will step into the legendary Royal Enclosure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called "Africa's Camelot." This fortified compound houses a remarkable collection of five castles and palaces, built by a succession of Ethiopian emperors starting in the 17th century. Their enduring presence, having survived wars and even WWII air raids, stands as a powerful testament to the strength of a once-mighty empire. Later, we visit the revered Debre Birhan Selassie Church, a masterpiece of Ethiopian art. Its interior is adorned with vibrant frescoes, culminating in the world-famous ceiling where the faces of 104 angelic cherubs gaze down upon you in a breathtaking display of sacred artistry.
A morning flight takes you to the sacred town of Lalibela. In the afternoon, prepare to be astounded as you enter the legendary complex of eleven rock-hewn churches, a living UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's greatest architectural marvels. Carved entirely from solid volcanic rock over 800 years ago, these monolithic structures are connected by a maze of tunnels and passageways. You will stand in awe before the magnificent Bet Giyorgis (Church of St. George), perfectly carved in the shape of a cross. Explore the otherworldly network of sanctuaries, including the massive Bet Medhane Alem, believed to be the largest monolithic church on earth, adorned with ancient crosses and intricate icon paintings that tell stories of deep faith and extraordinary craftsmanship.
Morning hike with mules to Mount Asheton, home to a 13th-century rock-hewn monastery and panoramic town views. Descend to Lalibela for lunch, then tour the remaining rock-hewn churches in the afternoon. Return to the hotel for a quick refresh before driving to Ben Abebe Restaurant, perched on the edge of a 1,000-meter cliff, where you’ll enjoy dinner with breathtaking valley views.
Fly to Axum on Ethiopian Airlines. Tour the ancient stelae fields, standing for 2000 years. Visit the new and impressive Archeological Museum. Visit other tombs and archeological sites as time permits.
Drive from Axum to Hausein via Adwa and Adigrat. Visit Abba Garima, Yeha,Debra Damo and the Gheralta plains. You can use the town as the base from which to visit the rock hewn churches at Gheralta.
In one day, visit three iconic Tigray rock-hewn churches: climb to Abuna Yemata Guh (noted for its stunning frescoes and cliffside setting), then Maryam Korkor and Daniel Korkor. Late afternoon, drive to Mekele airport for a flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, meet your support vehicle and transfer to the hotel for overnight.
Early morning flight to Semera, meet support vehicle and join Danakil convoy. Drive across the otherworldly Danakil Depression: first stop Lake Afrera (primary salt mining area). Continue to Dallol—over 130m below sea level—where an on-foot excursion reveals surreal neon-yellow, green, and orange hydrothermal fields, sulfur formations, and bubbling acidic ponds. End with the vast crystalline salt pans of Lake Assal. Set up basic camping for the night under the stars.
Early morning pickup from the Danakil camp, then drive across the vast salt flats of Lake Asale (Asebo), where the sunrise paints the mineral-rich landscape in striking hues of gold, orange, and white. Continue to Erta Ale volcano, one of the world’s few persistent lava lakes. Trek approximately one hour up the mountain, arriving in the evening to witness the glowing lava lake from the rim. After soaking in the dramatic scene, descend and return to the campsite for the night.
Early morning pickup from the campsite, then trek back up Erta Ale volcano to witness sunrise over the active lava lake—molten orange-red against the dawn sky. After soaking in the spectacle, descend for breakfast at camp. Following breakfast, begin the drive back to Semera, arriving in the afternoon. From there, take a flight to Addis Ababa, where a support vehicle meets you for transfer to the hotel for overnight.
Pickup at 10:00am for a visit to the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the iconic hominid fossil Lucy and a rich collection of ancient artifacts. Continue to the Addis Ababa Museum, housed in a former palace, featuring ethnographic exhibits and historical art. Optional time for souvenir shopping at local markets or artisan shops. In the evening, enjoy a festive farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant, savoring authentic Ethiopian cuisine accompanied by live music and vibrant cultural dance performances. Conclude with airport transfer.
