Le château de Versailles was the capital city in the 17th century. This is something new since the court used to be an itinerant one. Louis XIV known as the Sun king decided to leave the Louvre and settle down along with his court, family, clergy and ministers in Versailles.
Its gardens played a huge role socially and politically speaking. Each grove has its meaning and beauty. André Le Notre was the only of all the artists working in Versaille who obtained the nobility title. Louis XIV admired this man who turned a swamp into the best gardens in Europe. Then we will visit the domain of Marie Antoinette,'Petit Trianon', we will enter in her palace and visit her anglo-chinese style gardens and her hamlet, an idealised normand village.
Meet your local tour guide at the equestrian statue of Louis XIV located just at the entrence of the castle.
If you have a 'castle ticket', from Trianon you can take a train. You can also stay in the gardens as long as you want. If you desire to return back to Paris, there are two options: You can get a taxi from Marie Antoinette's domain to versailles train station or a direct one to Paris.
After an introduction of the palace and all its historical facts, daily life and anecdotes, we will stroll around its marvelous gardens to see some of its grooves and fountains. Tuesdays and weekends are the best days to admire the musical fountains.
Maria Antoinette received as a present 'Le petit trianon' in 1774 in order to escape the buzz inside the palace. This place played a huge role in her fall into disgrace as she will lock herself in with only a few chosen friends. We will see first of all her house, hamlet and different types of gardes including french and english-chinese one.
