What to expect

Begin the class by donning a professional sushi chef apron and learning the basics of cooking sushi rice. Prepare the rice by adding vinegar, salt and sugar to achieve the most favorable taste and consistency. Next, learn the proper way of shaping rice for sushi pieces and continue to making your own 10 pieces of nigiri-sushi, gunkan rolls and hand rolls. A variety of fresh fish and seafood, including tuna maguro and salmon, will be used for this class. Finally, receive a certificate for completion of the class before enjoying the delicious sushi you just made. There will be plenty of photo opportunities during this fun activity.

For a deeper understanding of sushi chef techniques, we also offer a 3-hour class which begins with introduction of professional Japanese kitchen knives for filleting and slicing fresh fish. You will try your hands at filleting a whole fish before making sushi, and will also learn how to handle and take care of the knives by sharpening them with a whetstone. This longer activity is suitable both for complete beginners and experienced chefs who wish to learn more about the art of Japanese kitchen knives.
