The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued the following... WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke. WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Grand, Rio Blanco, Eagle, Summit, Garfield, Pitkin, Mesa, Delta, Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, Montezuma, La Plata, Saguache, San Juan, Hinsdale, Mineral, Archuleta, Jackson, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Elbert, Lake, Park, Teller, El Paso, Chaffee, Fremont, Pueblo, Custer, Huerfano, Rio Grande, Alamosa, Costilla and Conejos Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Craig, Steamboat Springs, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Meeker, Rangely, Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Grand Junction, Delta, Gunnison, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray, Telluride, Dove Creek, Cortez, Durango, Hermosa, Honeyville, Rockwood, Saguache, Silverton, Lake City, Creede, Pagosa Springs, Walden, Central City, Georgetown, Kiowa, Leadville, Fairplay, Cripple Creek, Colorado Springs, Buena Vista, Salida, Canon City, Pueblo, Westcliffe, Del Norte, South Fork, Alamosa, San Luis and Conejos. WHEN...900 AM Wednesday August 05 to 900 AM Thursday August 06 IMPACTS...Areas of moderate to heavy smoke, from in-state and out- of-state wildfires, will be possible across the advisory area through at least Thursday morning. HEALTH INFORMATION...If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.
* AFFECTED AREA...In Colorado, Fire Weather Zone 205 Colorado River Headwaters and Fire Weather Zone 293 Gunnison Basin Forecast Area. * TIMING...From 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM MDT this evening. * WINDS...West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...8 to 13 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
