    Gypsy Hill

Considered the "unofficial capital of the gypsies", tourists are delighted by the view offered by the ethnic Roma houses of Gypsy Hill. On the only important elevation in Soroca, the Gypsies managed to erect, in just a few years, a megalith of constructions typical of this ethnic group, but which contrasts visibly with everything around, including the fortress of Stephen the Great. The respective houses represent real imposing fortresses, with two or three floors, sometimes even more, made of granite, marble, expensive imported materials, and thermal windows, guarded by huge statues, representing imitations of wild animals. At each entrance we find cylindrical columns, with bas-reliefs, supporting the balconies on the upper floors. It is a point of tourist attraction in the municipality of Soroca.

This monument is a network consisting of 265 observation points, represented by stone cubes with a side of two meters, arranged on a relative trajectory between Hammerfest (Norway) and Necrasovca-Veche (Ukraine). This network was designed with the aim of evaluating terrestrial parameters, shape, and size. The Struve geodesic arch underwent changes during the 40 years between 1816–1855. Now this arch measures 2,820 kilometers, and counts 34 observation points, included in the UNESCO heritage.

    The Candle of Gratitude Monument

At the beginning of the 2000s, a stone monument in the shape of a candle was erected, which received the name "Badea Mior" monument. The idea and the name of the monument belong to the writer Ion Druţă, who grew up and learned in the lands of Sorocii and who sang this land in many of his works. On March 27, 2004, the inauguration of the Candle of Gratitude monument took place. Here two elements meet: nature and history. The Candle of Gratitude, growing from the depths of our past, represents a tribute to all the anonymous heroes, who preserved the culture, language, and history of Moldova in the polychrome palette of human civilization. It symbolizes our hope and illuminates our path to the future, the path that can only be traveled through creative work, through the power of good. The Candle of Gratitude erected on the breast, above the Dniester, is the most important building in the modern history of Moldova, built in 2003-2004, it is 29.5 m high. From the waters of t…
