This dramatic and scenic park is the largest in Tanzania, holding a reputation as one of the country’s best-kept game viewing secrets with a wild and unrushed feel that sets it apart from other reserves. It is well known for its varied and beautiful landscape that includes rolling hills, open plains, enormous baobab trees, and the great Ruaha River. The remote and essentially untouched wilderness sweeps across a gorgeous countryside where age-old trees stud the hills and rocky escarpments add a touch of drama to the skyline.
Dar es Salaam (meaning ‘city of peace’ in Arabic) is a sprawling coastal city and the commercial capital of Tanzania. Dar is located on the Indian Ocean and is Tanzania’s largest city. It is the 3rd fastest growing city in Africa with an expected population of over 5.5 million by 2021.You will be flying from Dar to Iringa depending on your flight schedule at arrival in Iringa you will taking to your accommodation close to the park.
You will start your game drive early in the morning in order to spot animals in there start of their day like hunting, milking and drinking water. With the Great Ruaha River which flows along its eastern border, creating spectacular gorges and home to 10,000 elephants has given Ruaha National Park as the best secret keep from all other parks in Tanzania. During the game drive you will be able to spot various antelope species, such as eland, grant’s gazelle, impala, greater and lesser kudu. With thriving grassland bordering the river you will be able to spot sable, roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe and zebra. In the afternoon you will take your lunch at Temboni Cottages which has perfect game view while you taking your lunch. Later on you will continue with game drive till evening where you will exit the park and return your accommodation.
You will be taking by safari vehicle from your lodge or camp to the launch site near the Great Ruaha River. Our experienced Captain will take you through the important safety procedures and explains the launch and landing positions while the gold and green of the balloon billows against the lightening sky. As you fly high in the air you may be able to spot big cats on early morning hunts, herds of hundreds of elephant seeking water at the river bank, hippos wallowing peacefully and birds giving accompaniment to the rising sun. After your hot balloon safari, as the tradition of balloonists, we toast the flight with sparkling wine before boarding a safari car for a short game drive to breakfast. The wildlife of Ruaha is notable for many reasons. After the Hot Balloon Safari, you will continue with game drive on the other side of the park where you will be able to spot wild dogs and other big cats. Later in the evening you will have culture tour in Maasai village that is close to the park and have time to learn the roots of their culture.
You will be flying back to Dar from Iringa with best memories of the wildlife from The Great Ruaha National Park.
