"Explore the magnificent atmosphere of the Danube Bend – let the fabulous, old town, Vac, fascinate you!" Tour guiding is not only my really profession, but my passion too. I am open-minded, friendly and get on well with people very easily. Meeting new people from different parts of the world is the most fantastic thing that I can imagine. I would be happy to show the travellers my wonderful home town where I know every hidden corners, story of the beautiful baroque buildings and legends.
In front of the Railway Station of Vác, in Széchenyi István utca
Close to the Danube Bank and the Prison
The third biggest Cathedral in Hungary. Built in classicist style.
The unique Triumphal Arch in honour of Queen Maria Theresa were built in Baroque style.
The most important secular Baroque building in Vác is the town hall built between 1736 and 1764.
The Dominicains built their simple-aisled church between 1699 and 1755 in Rococo style and it was decorated for other 15 years. During the restoration work of the Dominican Church in 1994 an invaluable treasure of the cultural history was discovered. The workers have found the crypt of the church. More than 150 years ago the wealthier inhabitants and the members of the church were buried here. In the crypt 262 coffins were placed in the 17th and 18th centuries. The coffins hided spontaneously mummified bodies of the citizens of Vác. Due to the special favourable conditions the corpses have been mummified in natural way. They were men, women, children, craftsmen, monks, priests, military officers, clerks.
The Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy is a U-shaped, baroque house. The Hospital was used by the monks, who settled in Vác in 1763 in order to nurse the sick. They were given a house in the Main Square, which had been built between 1732 and 1751 and meant to be a seminary.
The church stood here for about five hundred years, there was a church in Saint Michael, and the area was built in relation to it. It was transformed several times, the layout that we can see now shows its longest-lived form as revealed by the archaeological excavations.
The only medieval monument still visible today is the Pointed Tower, the northernmost corner tower of the medieval city wall.
Today it is an exhibition place of the Vác Diocese Collection, spectacular exhibitions, and a host of valuable events.
Opposite the Cathedral can be found the Bishop Palace, which was built in the same period.
