What to expect

Begin with a trip to Prison Island, located just half an hour from Stone Town. Famous for its giant tortoises, which have been residing there since 1919 after being brought from Aldabra Seychelles, the island is a perfect spot for snorkeling and sunbathing. It was once used as a quarantine station before the British built the Stone Town prison in the 1890s, though the prison was never utilized.

Next, head back to Stone Town for a historical walk through this UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore key landmarks such as the Old Market (dating back to 1903), which features sections for fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, and spices. Visit notable sites like the House of Wonders (National Museum), Tippu Tip House, the former English Club (Africa House), and the Old Fort. Meander through the picturesque alleys with their unique doors and wooden balconies, and make stops at the Palace Museum, Old Dispensary, and the Former Slave Market (optional).
