    Galle Dutch Fort

Galle Fort is one of the most famous landmarks in Sri Lanka — a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the coastal city of Galle. Here’s a quick overview: History: Originally built by the Portuguese in 1588, then extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. Later, the British made further modifications. Architecture: A unique blend of European colonial and South Asian traditions — cobblestone streets, Dutch-style buildings, churches, mosques, and old warehouses. Highlights inside the Fort: The Dutch Reformed Church (1755) The Galle Lighthouse (first built in 1848, current structure from 1939) The Maritime Museum (inside an old Dutch warehouse) Old Gate with both Dutch and British crests Boutique shops, cafés, and art galleries scattered across narrow lanes A mix of history and modern leisure — people stroll along the ramparts at sunset, enjoy sea views, and explore charming cafés and shops.

What is the Koggala Lake Boat Safari The boat safari takes you through Koggala Lagoon / Lake in southern Sri Lanka, near Galle. It’s a biodiverse area — mangrove forests, small islands, temples, cinnamon and other spice plantations, wildlife (birds, sometimes monitor lizards, small crocodiles) are part of the experience. There are inhabited and uninhabited islands. “Cinnamon Island” is one point of interest, where you can see cinnamon production, taste cinnamon tea, etc. You also can visit “Madol Duwa” — an island made famous by a Sri Lankan novel; exactly what is there depends on the tour.
