What to expect

Begin your day with a trip to Prison Island, located just 30 minutes from Stone Town. Famous for its population of giant tortoises—brought from Aldabra in the Seychelles in 1919—the island also offers excellent opportunities for snorkeling and sunbathing. Originally intended as a quarantine station, it later saw the construction of a prison by the British in the 1890s, though it was never used for that purpose.

Afterwards, return to Stone Town for a guided historical tour through this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Old Market, established in 1903, where you’ll find separate sections for fish, meat, fruits, vegetables, and spices. Discover notable landmarks such as the House of Wonders (now the National Museum), Tippu Tip’s House, the Old Fort, and the former English Club, now known as Africa House. As you explore the winding alleys, take in the distinct doors and wooden balconies, and make time to see the Palace Museum, Old Dispensary, and optionally, the Former Slave Market.
