In the Hmong dialect, we are used to say that “There is no mountain higher than knees of Hmong people“. Hmong people use to live high in the mountains. Nothing can scare them. Not even an ascent with a declination of 70° with their honeycomb sandals, the traditional slippers. This trek is a challenge for you to follow them, to see if you are to able to walk like a Hmong. At the same time, on our off the beaten track trek, you will be rewarded by the most scenic views in the Sapa valley, also called the Muong Hoa valley and cross the main villages to learn about their culture and customs.
We can arrange a sleeper daily bus for you at 7:30, 14:30, 22:30, 23:00 from Noibai airport to Sapa town. The journey takes 6km. When you arrive in Sapa town, my guide will meet you there to start the trek. And your bags will be brought to my homestay in advance. The starting time is not permanent, it's up to you.
Our guide will meet you at the meeting point, which is up to you, in Sapa town. We will start the trek from here.
Y Linh Ho Village is the home to many small population ethnic groups scattered on the mountain slopes, and 2 of the most crowded minorities here are the Black H’Mong and the Dao individuals. Nowadays, the village is divided into 2 communes: Y Linh Ho 1 and Y Linh Ho 2. In each commune, there are about 100 households of Mong and Dao people currently residing. Coming to Y Linh Ho Village, visitors will surely be taken aback by the amazing, incredible views of the terraced fields and corn fields. As a main source of living, the fields here are taken care of very well by the local people. Therefore, the padding fields are always really luxuriant, especially in the harvest season. During the harvest period, the village always welcomes loads of visitors, who come to admire the beauty of nature, and to capture unique photos of the ripe crops.
Lao Chai Village is situated about 7 km to the southeast of Sapa town’s center. It lies peacefully in a deep valley named Muong Hoa while embraced by marvelous ranges of Hoang Lien Son Mountain. It is adjacent to Ta Van Village which is also a featured tourist attraction of Sapa. Feeling tired of the city’s hustle and bustle, it’s time for you to rejuvenate yourself by savoring the tranquility of the countryside. In Lao Chai Village, you are prone to stay in harmony with nature and put all trouble and sorrows to one side. In particular, you can wander around the paddy fields to take several photographs, immerse yourself in the serenades of morning birds and hear the murmuring sound of streams and waterfalls. That’s really a yomost feeling!
Coming to Ta Van, visitors not only see themselves in the picturesque scenery of nature with the murmuring sound of streams and the singing of wild birds calling you to find love but also enjoy the peaceful appearance of the village. The village leans back on the Hoang Lien Son Mountain and Muong Hoa Stream is on the front side. The houses of the local face the Northeast direction. According to the feng-shui concept of the Giay, it is not good to build a house facing the mountain and downwards the stream flow. For hundreds of years, the Giay people still kept their typical culture in the customs, religion and festival. We will spend the end of the day at my Hmong sister house. And we will have delicious traditional meal together here.
Slowly wake up with our delicious breakfast before continuing your trek in the heart of Muong Hoa Valley. After crossing Ta Van, one of the most famous villages, you will trek through a mystic bamboo forest before reaching the most beautiful waterfall of the valley. From there, enjoy the amazing view on the other side of the valley. In Giang Ta Chai, get the opportunity to learn about the second most important minority of the valley: the Red Dao. At the end of the day, before coming back to Sapa, enjoy your last moment in Zizi homestay, feel free to explore Zizi’s village and enjoy the sunset.
Muong Hoa Valley has its reputation for majestic nature, picturesque scenery, and colorful multi-culture of many ethnic minorities there. Muong Hoa Valley is surrounded by high mountains standing side by side in Hoang Lien Son mountain range with craggy terrain and having Fansipan the roof of Indochina; therefore, this land is not nearly under the impact of modernization and remains almost pristine beauty of nature. Highlights of the valley are Hoa stream (flower stream) with a length of 15 kilometers and large terraced fields along the mountainsides. From above, that Hoa stream flows around terraced fields piled up like waves alternating small brown stilt houses creates such a poetic scene making a great impression on every tourist that terraced fields in Muong Hoa Valley are voted to be one of the most terraced fields all over the world.
After lunch and short rest, you will continue to Giang Ta Chai village, home of Red Dzao people with gorgeous picture of mountains and rice terraced fields. The guide will take you to visit some local house before hiking up to the main road and having car picked up back to your hotel in the center.
After passing Giang Ta Chai village, we will reach Su Pan village. Home of Hmong and Dzao people, you can see their life activities here.
