Napo is an Ecuadorian province, located at the eastern side of the country. Its capital is Tena. The province contains the majestic Napo River, which is one of the main affluents of the Amazonas. The thick rainforest is home to many natives that remain isolated by preference: descendants of those who avoid the Spanish invasion in the Andes and the Inca’s years before. Tena, the capital, is known as the Cinnamon capital of Ecuador, originally founded by missionary explorers and is located at 420m above sea level with a temperature between 25˚C and 32˚C (77˚F – 89˚F). Tena is famous for the rainforest and the rivers that surround it. It has some of the best rafting and kayaking activities in Ecuador. The lodge of this program is located 20 minutes away by public or private transportation from Tena city, making it very easy to access and it is on the banks of the huge Napo river.

Your Amazon Adventure starts today. After lunch, you will wear your rubber boots and go hiking with our native guide. He will share traditional knowledge of local medicinal plants such as dragon’s blood, ginger, guayusa, and straw used for instruments, costumes and construction for the development of the community. You can swing on vines like Tarzan and take a photograph at The Great Ceibo, the Giant Amazonian tree. We will then return to the lodge to get bathsuits, towels, lifejackets and inner tubes for our late afternoon Tubing in the Pusuno River. We return to have dinner, and your guide will explain the next day’s activities.
This day is open for enjoying one or more of the lodge’s optional tours. Nature lovers may want to start before breakfast with a daybreak birdwatching tour. Along the way you will learn about medicinal plants, taste edible fruits and insects and discover how to weave traditional palm-fiber bags. Hikers have several options to choose from: The Rayucocha Waterfall, which combines a demanding hike on ancient trail and hidden waterfall hike. Umbuni Waterfall with rainforest hike, wich combines cultural visit to KichWa community and monkeys beach.
You will go to Misahualli where you can see monkeys playing in the forest next to the beach, perfect for witnessing an Amazonian river sunset. Visit the Indigenous Community where a group of Kichwa women will speak of their customs, cuisine and everyday life. They have created the center in order to showcase their culture, and it is an unique opportunity to learn about Amazonian lifestyles along the Napo River. You will also have the opportunity to buy crafts, local products and souvenirs.
After breakfast, a short 20 minutes walking to the port in the Napo River will take you onto a comfortable covered motor boat. Here we start a boat ride along the Napo River for approximately 1,5 hours. Some aquatic birds can be spotted on the way. Behind the shores of one the beaches along the River Arajuno is the famous animal refuge known as AmaZoonico. This refuge was founded for the purpose of protecting and taking care of the native and wild animals of the area that have either been injured, mistreated or been confiscated and handed over because they were being smuggled. Once this visit is over, you’ll return to Suchipakari by a canoe.
Today is the final day of your Amazon Adventure. After breakfast you will learn how to harvest cacao and then learn how to create some of the world’s highest quality chocolate in the world of our Kichwa Kitchen. After making the best chocolate you’ve probably ever tasted, you will check out of the lodge and continue your travel in Ecuador or return home.
