This ecological tour starts off with a 10 minute walk down Tamarindo Beach from our meeting point. We will walk from ocean beach, to river mouth, to the Tamarindo Estuary. Participants will then mount a, “panga” or a covered boat to cruise the National Park Marina Las Baulas. This tour allows participants to witness the tropical biodiversity of the brackish water environment in one of Costa Rica’s largest mangroves. The tour boasts opportunities to see crocodiles, varied species of crabs, varied species of heron and other aquatic birds, bats, raccoons, iguanas, and of course, howler monkeys! The flora is just as impressive as the fauna. Red, black and white mangrove trees can be observed thriving in the National Park. If conditions allow, tourists can dismount the boat to briefly hike into the jungle and witness the howler monkeys in their natural habitat. This tour must take place close to high tide so please contact us directly to schedule the tour at an appropriate time.
Please find parking lot named Alameda #5. We will meet you directly on the beach, on the sand, to the left of Perla De La Playa Hotel, under the almond trees. From there, we will walk 10 minutes down the beach to the river mouth of the National Park Marina Las Baulas.
This end point is at the Tamarindo Estuary river mouth, only a ten minute walk from the original meeting place. After the tour, you can walk back up the beach to the original meeting point and exit the beach onto the street Calle Central, or the parking lot Alameda #5.
Participants will witness the natural beauty of the flora and fauna that inhabit the mangrove environment of the National Park Marina Las Baulas.
