What to expect

Leave the crowds behind and immerse yourself in the vibrant heart of Balinese village life at Balikaru, at the foot of Mount Batukaru, surrounded by lush, emerald rice terraces. Begin with a stroll through the fragrant herb and spice garden, home to over 40 tropical plants, and discover the ancient art of Jamu, Indonesia’s traditional herbal wellness drink. Taste the aromas and flavors of leaves, roots, and spices in this thousand-year-old tradition.

Roll up your sleeves to prepare three yummy Balinese desserts—Lak Lak, Dadar Gulung, and Sumping—under the guidance of our Balikaru chef, and savor your creations. Listen to the gentle melodies of the Rindik, the bamboo instrument of rice farmers, and try playing a few notes yourself.

In the late afternoon, visit Balikaru Farm to meet ducks, geese, and our friendly cow, Manis. Explore the rice fields, try planting rice by hand, and witness stingless Trigona bees collecting nectar to make healthy, aromatic honey.

End your day with a homemade Balinese dinner at Warung Balikaru. Enjoy a Nasi Campur Tumpeng with local red rice, and return to your accommodation with lasting memories of Bali’s flavors, sounds, and traditions.
