    With 66.35 ha, the Douro Estuary Local Nature Reserve is located on the south bank of the mouth of this river, close to the fishing village of Afurada, encompassing Cabedelo and São Paio bay, where there is a salt marsh. Among the natural values it protects, the highlight goes to the birds that live here or pass through here and that can be easily observed, as it is located on the migratory corridor known as the "East Atlantic Route”.
