Located on the right bank of the River Douro, in the heart of the historic centre of Porto, the Porto Customs Congress Centre is one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Originally built between 1859 and 1869 as the "New Alfândega", on the old Miragaia beach, this neoclassical building was designed by the French architect Jean-François Colson. Its construction represented one of the most significant urban transformations of the 19th century in Porto, including the connection to Campanhã Station by a railway branch in 1888.
