This tour features audio commentary created by a local host, guiding you to uncover clues from this enigmatic era while walking through the ancient burial landscape. Simply scan QR codes with your smartphone using free internet access and listen in your preferred language — English, French, German, Spanish, or Dutch.
After exploring the burial mounds, enjoy a tasting of three local wines at Katashimo Winery’s vineyard and shop. Learn how the same geology and climate that shaped the ancient mounds still influence grape growing and the character of local wines.
A cultural and sensory journey rooted in the land itself. Light meals including a Japanese-style egg sandwich with coffee or tea are also provided during the tour at a suitable rest stop depending on weather conditions.

Arrive and start the walking tour of the Furuichi Kofun Burial Mounds.

You will visit the South Gate, Worship Hall, Hojo Bridge, and Hojo Pond. You will also view the adjacent Kondayama Kofun Burial Mound from the shrine grounds.

You will explore multiple ancient burial mounds with distinct experiences. You will view Kurizuka Kofun burial mound from the outside, then see Futatsuzuka Kofun burial mound from the adjacent rest area and enjoy a light meal here if weather is dry. You will climb Otorizuka and Komuroyama Kofun burial mounds to understand their shape. In case of rain, the meal will be served near Nakatsuyama Kofun burial mound, which you will view from its worship area. You will then observe Suketayama Kofun burial mound from the outside and finally enjoy the view of nearby burial mounds from the top of Nabetsuka Kofun burial mound.
