This is a unique experience that takes place at an organic community farm and kitchen run by a group of locals interested in sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Enjoy cooking and dining in a rustic, traditional, outdoor Balinese kitchen.

Walk around an organic farm to pick up ingredients, then cook and eat a traditional Balinese meal, and engage in some cultural discussion. Your fun and interactive organic farm tour lasts for about 30-45 mins as you walk through tall bushes and muddy land gathering ingredients like beans and lemongrass. After sipping on a cold beverage, and donning an apron, start by helping Kadek prepare and cook an authentic Balinese meal. Enjoy a meal of the dishes you prepared along with a couple of dishes that Kadek will have prepared in advance. Kadek will also give you a cookbook with recipes of the dishes you cooked so that you can re-create them back home!

What to expect

Your culinary experience begins with a farm tour learning about the workings of a local farm with your host Kadek and gather produce and spices for your meal. You will be provided straw hats so you’re well equipped for the heat! Your fun and interactive farm tour lasts for about 30-45 mins as you walk through tall bushes and muddy land gathering ingredients like beans and lemongrass. After your expedition, Kadek offers you a refreshing drink and wet towels to wipe your face before you begin cooking.

Your cooking class takes place in a traditional Balinese style outdoor community kitchen. During your two-hour cooking class, you will learn to make 2-3 authentic dishes.

Some of the dishes you might try are nasi sela (rice with sweet potato), garang asem (chicken cooked with Balinese spices), tuna satay (traditional Balinese fish kebabs) and sayur urab (green vegetables with coconut and spices). You will end your meal with kolak (banana dessert) and Balinese coffee or lemongrass tea. Please note that Kadek will not join you for the meal, as he first needs to offer the meal to mother nature and prefers that you don’t wait for him to finish the ritual to start your meal.
