Seek reassurance before booking
Pros:

Whilst the location and initial appearance of this hotel is charming English and quaint the reality of staying here is much different. We arrived as a group to be informed that one of the rooms did not have a working shower or bath. On closer inspection some of the rooms were dirty and we had to ask for sheets to be changed. There were no towels in some of the rooms. The owners appeared willing to try and sort our problems but generally seemed a little overwhelmed with the extent of the issues they needed to resolve for us. There were significant areas that required a deep clean for example the downstairs male toilets. We did stay for the evening meal (which was preordered) and this was served on time and the food was adequate. I would not advise anyone to stay in this venue unless you have significant reassurance that the issues we faced have been resolved. I hope this review has been fair and helpful.

Pros:

Pleasant and welcoming could do with some a refurbishment but still has a certain charm about the place. Wishing the new owners all the very best in their new venture its definitely going to keep them busy. We would definitely come back.

Nice building, but room unclean.
Pros:

Checking was great, and the room was sufficient. However, when I went to use the shower in the morning, the bath had lots of debris, and gunk in it, presumably from the person who used it before. The carpet also hadn’t been cleaned, which put me off somewhat. The bedding did seem fresh, but I didn’t want to take a shower, or have a tea and coffee in the morning. The cleanliness really let this place down.

Pros:

I understand that the hotel is under new ownership and so there is naturally teething problems in getting into a good working rhythm, but honestly, I think this place has a LOT of learnings it needs to take on incredibly quickly in order to stay afloat for much longer. Such a shame as the building could be outstanding. It's a natural beauty and could serve the local community really well, but it needs some serious investment to stop it from going to wreck and ruin.

Gorgeous historic property
Pros:

The lovely owners of the delightful hotel Im sure will bring this stunning building back to life. Extremely warm welcome & delicious home cooked fresh high quality food. Stunningly elegant property in need of a bit of TLC but I would certainly stay here again. Peace & tranquility , beautiful views, a genuine county getaway form the hustle & bustle of work & city life.

A Haphazard Experience
Pros:

If your idea of a good hotel is an urban hotel chain where everything works but it is all a bit soulless then this is not for you.
On the plus side it is situated in the middle of countryside; you are greeted by two golden eagle statues atop the gate posts at the entrance to the drive; our rooms looked over green fields where horses grazed, we slept in comfortable four poster beds, and had breakfast in a wood panelled room.
The downsides are that it is very isolated, miles from the nearest small village, a no no for non car owners. There is a long potholed drive to the house. The building has seen better days and needs a lot of investment to bring it up to standard. Our rooms were right at the top at the end of a narrow twisty staircase, not good if you are of a certain age and have suitcases to carry (no offer of porterage). In one of the bathrooms the window seemed to be held together with tape. The showers were little more than a trickle. However one thing that was really odd was that the beds were never made and the rooms never cleaned though we stayed for five days. When we queried this the answer was that the cleaner came on Wednesday (sic) but you didn’t tell us when you would be out. If we asked for things like more milk for the in room coffee they sometimes never came.
All in all if you would like a different experience for a night or two then certainly give it a try. I would not recommend anything longer.

Pros:

We attended a wedding and had the best time. Simon worked so hard in difficult circumstances.
The building is beautiful but in need of a fortune spending on it. In saying that we would happily go back

Pros:

Quirky, historical property set in spacious grounds. Recently taken over by new owners. Homecooked food: my steak pie, mash and peas was excellent and the cooked breakfast was good too - though no cereals! Small but well-stocked bar. Spacious room with freeview TV. Property needs upgrading but it's clean enough and comfortable. Owners friendly and helpful. I'd stay again and wish the owners good luck with their plans.

Awful hotel
Pros:

Appalling.
Dirty, unkempt, gardens a mess, no staff, sockets loose on wall, rotting sash window frames, large cracks in bath, flies and wasps in bedroom, no refurbishment for decades.
Building is literally decaying.
I thought there were legal standards that have to be upheld to call yourself a hotel.
In my opinion it should be shut down.

Amazing food!!
Pros:

Not eaten here under the new management but decided to just go for drinks on Fathers Day.
Mum & Dad decided to have a meal as the food coming out looked amazing-& they are so glad that they did!!
The food was fresh, plentiful & delicious!
In fact, my dad is STILL talking about it to this day(24/6/25)!!
They decided to go for the 2 course ,main & dessert.
Everything was fantastic, the food, the service, everything & can't wait to go back!!
I'm so glad they have finally got good, decent people running this beautiful place because it's exactly what it deserves!

10 out of 10!

**Only managed to get a photo of the empty plates!! It was too délions to hang about taking photos! 🤣 Dessert was sticky toffee puddibg**

Fantastic food
Pros:

A very traditional property set in amazing grounds / country side location.
We have had stays previously, but this is the first with the new management. The property itself was much the same (it can't ever change much due to the listing / protected status of the building). The food was an absolute high point. Each item was very nicely done. My wagu burger was tasty and had a slightly crisped edge. The chips were as addictive as Five Guys. My wife who is vegitarian had a tagliatelle with butternut squash/ tomato and goat cheese. The flavour was fantastic. As a committed carnivore I would have happily had the vegetarian option. Portion sizes were good.
Overall very happy with the stay, and by today's standards, I think represents excellent value. I look forward to our next visit.

Pros:

Quiet & pretty grounds. Clearly quite something back in its day but the rooms are tired, dirty & need refurbishing. No basic house keeping (not even replacement clean coffee cups, bins changed) due to skeleton staff, or may be no staff. Did feel more like a hostel than hotel which is a real shame given the property history. On a positive food was reasonable & interaction with staff we did see was friendly.

Great setting but very tired
Pros:

The hotel is set in lovely parklands a mile from the local village.
No directions for parking which is actually anywhere opposite the front door.
Expectation was reasonably high when approaching the front door.
A friendly greeting from the host who showed me to my room on the top floor.
The room was fairly basic, no desk to work at, but clean with dated furniture.
The bathroom is in need to a refurb. The shower is just above a dribble with the handset at it's highest point due to low water pressure. Unable to keep the bathroom window open without using a toilet roll to keep the sash up.
Lastly only Decaf coffee sachets which I asked reception for the alternative only to be told they did not have any. The shop in the village was open until 7pm. On a positive note the village pub offered great food, a warm welcome and well priced tasty pub grub.
Give this one a miss until a full refurb has been carried out.

Sunday Lunch Mums Day
Pros:

Great meal and hospitality.
The service was a little slow due to the numbers in the restaurant and hotel.
However overall it was a nice visit with the extra little details, free hand massage and flowers for the mums.
Toys were available for the youngsters and the grounds are lovely.

Delicious Sunday roast in a beautiful setting
Pros:

Stopped by for a romantic Sunday lunch with my partner. Beautiful setting in a rustic country manor, surrounded by beautifully sunny paddocks and birds chirping.

The food didn’t disappoint either -
Some of the best roast beef and Yorkshire puddings I’ve ever had - with friendly service from the chef and staff.

We’ll certainly be back!
