Seek reassurance before booking
Pros:

Whilst the location and initial appearance of this hotel is charming English and quaint the reality of staying here is much different. We arrived as a group to be informed that one of the rooms did not have a working shower or bath. On closer inspection some of the rooms were dirty and we had to ask for sheets to be changed. There were no towels in some of the rooms. The owners appeared willing to try and sort our problems but generally seemed a little overwhelmed with the extent of the issues they needed to resolve for us. There were significant areas that required a deep clean for example the downstairs male toilets. We did stay for the evening meal (which was preordered) and this was served on time and the food was adequate. I would not advise anyone to stay in this venue unless you have significant reassurance that the issues we faced have been resolved. I hope this review has been fair and helpful.

A Haphazard Experience
Pros:

If your idea of a good hotel is an urban hotel chain where everything works but it is all a bit soulless then this is not for you.
On the plus side it is situated in the middle of countryside; you are greeted by two golden eagle statues atop the gate posts at the entrance to the drive; our rooms looked over green fields where horses grazed, we slept in comfortable four poster beds, and had breakfast in a wood panelled room.
The downsides are that it is very isolated, miles from the nearest small village, a no no for non car owners. There is a long potholed drive to the house. The building has seen better days and needs a lot of investment to bring it up to standard. Our rooms were right at the top at the end of a narrow twisty staircase, not good if you are of a certain age and have suitcases to carry (no offer of porterage). In one of the bathrooms the window seemed to be held together with tape. The showers were little more than a trickle. However one thing that was really odd was that the beds were never made and the rooms never cleaned though we stayed for five days. When we queried this the answer was that the cleaner came on Wednesday (sic) but you didn’t tell us when you would be out. If we asked for things like more milk for the in room coffee they sometimes never came.
All in all if you would like a different experience for a night or two then certainly give it a try. I would not recommend anything longer.

Awful hotel
Pros:

Appalling.
Dirty, unkempt, gardens a mess, no staff, sockets loose on wall, rotting sash window frames, large cracks in bath, flies and wasps in bedroom, no refurbishment for decades.
Building is literally decaying.
I thought there were legal standards that have to be upheld to call yourself a hotel.
In my opinion it should be shut down.

Amazing food!!
Pros:

Not eaten here under the new management but decided to just go for drinks on Fathers Day.
Mum & Dad decided to have a meal as the food coming out looked amazing-& they are so glad that they did!!
The food was fresh, plentiful & delicious!
In fact, my dad is STILL talking about it to this day(24/6/25)!!
They decided to go for the 2 course ,main & dessert.
Everything was fantastic, the food, the service, everything & can't wait to go back!!
I'm so glad they have finally got good, decent people running this beautiful place because it's exactly what it deserves!

10 out of 10!

**Only managed to get a photo of the empty plates!! It was too délions to hang about taking photos! 🤣 Dessert was sticky toffee puddibg**

Fantastic food
Pros:

A very traditional property set in amazing grounds / country side location.
We have had stays previously, but this is the first with the new management. The property itself was much the same (it can't ever change much due to the listing / protected status of the building). The food was an absolute high point. Each item was very nicely done. My wagu burger was tasty and had a slightly crisped edge. The chips were as addictive as Five Guys. My wife who is vegitarian had a tagliatelle with butternut squash/ tomato and goat cheese. The flavour was fantastic. As a committed carnivore I would have happily had the vegetarian option. Portion sizes were good.
Overall very happy with the stay, and by today's standards, I think represents excellent value. I look forward to our next visit.

Sunday Lunch Mums Day
Pros:

Great meal and hospitality.
The service was a little slow due to the numbers in the restaurant and hotel.
However overall it was a nice visit with the extra little details, free hand massage and flowers for the mums.
Toys were available for the youngsters and the grounds are lovely.

Delicious Sunday roast in a beautiful setting
Pros:

Stopped by for a romantic Sunday lunch with my partner. Beautiful setting in a rustic country manor, surrounded by beautifully sunny paddocks and birds chirping.

The food didn’t disappoint either -
Some of the best roast beef and Yorkshire puddings I’ve ever had - with friendly service from the chef and staff.

We’ll certainly be back!

Christmas getaway to a lovely manor .
Pros:

Lovely place with lovely surroundings. Was made to feel very welcome from the start and nothing was to much trouble. Food and service was great and affordable with a discount being given when booking online in advance. As for the staff,/owners they are the friendliest and will definitely go back again. Room was well heated and bed comfortable.

Lack of communication to reschedule a postponed COVID booking
Pros:

My daughter booked us a mother's day treat. £165 for afternoon tea and spa treatment. This was booked for March 2020 which was postponed for COVID. Rowley Manor initially rebooked us for August 2020 before postponing again. More recently they have ignored my calls and emails attempting to get this rebooked. Not impressed.

Disappointing Stay. Venue has such potential.
Pros:

Stayed for 2 nights. Entrance very unappealing. We were unsure if we were at the right location as it seemed to be deserted. Our room was in dire need of upgrading - as is the rest of the hotel. No hand towel in bathroom. Hot water took AGES to come through and we ended up having luke warm showers.

Room not cleaned after first night, so tea & coffee not replenished. Continental breakfast was very average - not much choice and not great quality.

Returned to the Hotel at 8:30pm on Saturday night expecting to get a drink in the bar, but everything was shut up! Trekked into the nearest village and luckily found a lovely pub - The Black Horse.

Had afternoon tea included in our stay. Presentation was lovely, but all the sweet/cake selection was chocolate based, so not the best.

Find it very hard to believe anyone would choose the Hotel for their wedding venue. Such a shame as the location of the Hotel is amazing. The building and grounds just need a good overhaul, an upgrade of the rooms and attention to detail.

Quiet stay in lovely setting
Pros:

Spent 2 nights here which was a gift from my son. Hotel in a lovely location with stunning views. Friendly staff and afternoon tea was one of the best we’ve had. Bit disappointed with the room, even though was clean it was in great need of some TLC. Gaudy chandelier and rickety bed, looking up at a ceiling in need of decorating. We never saw another guest so felt uncomfortable staying there for dinner or drinks so found a brilliant pub in the village. Even outside garden furniture was in need of a good clean as full of bird droppings, so couldn’t even sit outside to enjoy sunshine. The lawns were immaculate as there is a local croquet club using the grounds. Be careful when parking your car as it gets covered in bird droppings which could cause lasting damage. We have spent a whole day cleaning and waxing to get rid of residue. Nightmare!! Overall the stay was pleasant, but too quiet and lacking atmosphere for us.

Exceptional value afternoon tea of the highest quality.
Pros:

Visited this stunning 17th century Hotel for afternoon tea, with my mum and husband. We were wowed by the ambience and surroundings and the dining room with its wood panelled walls and historic portraits was quite beautiful. Staff were extremely attentive and gave us the warmest of welcomes and highest level of service throughout.
The afternoon tea was amazing, probably amongst the best we have ever had and we have been to eateries all around the country from the Ritz in London, to Carriages in Cambridge and Betty's in York for afternoon tea. The Rowley Manor takes some beating.
The fingers sandwiches were delicious, as were the home made sausage and tomato rolls. The freshly baked scones were warm and crumbly with fresh clotted cream and homemade jam. The little cakes and desserts were just heavenly and of the highest quality. Decadence!
All for only £20 per head. Its unbelievably good value. Would highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

Afternoon Tea with Proseco
Pros:

Had a lovely visit to Rowley Manor 15th May. My friend and I enjoyed an excellent Afternoon Tea. The food, china cups and saucers, fresh crisp white tablecloths, service and really lovely Staff, especially Mandy who cared for us was exceptional.
The variety of finger sandwiches was lovely and little sausage rolls delicious. If you like cakes then you'll be spoilt, the scones, clotted cream & strawberry preserve delish. The English Tea and Green Tea was unlimited and we finished off with a bottle of Proseco....just perfect. A lovely walk around the Grounds finalised a special afternoon.
We are certain to return to try a lunch. Well done Rowley Manor, thank you for a lovely time. 🙂🙋‍♀️

Sunday lunch
Pros:

After reading some of the reviews my expectations were pretty low. However the staff were very pleasant and efficient and the Sunday lunch enjoyable. The place is in need of some TLC but that wouldn’t put me returning, maybe to try the afternoon tea which seems very popular.

Superb afternoon tea
Pros:

We've just had afternoon tea at Rowley Manor. It was absolutely superb, even better than the last time we went. A lovely lady served us and the service was excellent. She couldn't do enough for us.
The food was beautiful and fresh, excellent scones and served with clotted cream. There was so much served that we had to bring cakes and mousse home in a box.
Well recommended.

Terrible
Pros:

We went to Rowley Manor for a three course meal and a disco, there were 30+ people there. The food was horrendous all three courses tasteless cold and not worth the money we paid. I was one of the guests that unfortunately stayed over, shower didn't work at all, no plug in the bathroom sink, massive crack all the way along the ceiling white tape on the windows instead of putty, bathroom light cord come off in my hand so had a mini disco in our room it was flashing that bad. The main entrance was absolutely discussing, pots on the floor catching the rain, wallpaper hanging off the walls and some kind of sheet pinned to the ceiling which was probably covering a hole. The side door entrance we used, had a really wobbly paving stones on it.(An accident waiting to happen). Breakfast was not good either but a slight improvement on the Three course meal. I would not recommend anyone to stay or eat here. The place is rundown and needs a lot of money spending on it to get it back to it's former glory.

Just a word of warning.
Be careful when driving down the track to the house it's full of pot holes.
