horrible hotel!! the place needs lots of repairs, water goes out, things are broken, the owners son is a rude person. i dont recommend at all.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casablanca! The location was great, far enough away from the noise of the main beach, but close enough to walk or a short golf cart ride away. The staff were super friendly and attentive. They were always available to answer questions, and went above and beyond to help us if we needed something during our stay. We loved the pool and the atmosphere of the hotel, very tropical, with lots of wildlife and beautiful vegetation. There were beach chairs out every day to enjoy. The parking area had plenty of charging stations for renting a golf cart and was gated in the evening. Nelson was helpful in the evening with letting us in and helping to get the cart plugged in. He was super friendly to the kids and made arriving back at night more fun.
The room was amazing as well. We loved the small kitchen area with all of the amenities needed to have a meal at the hotel. The bedroom was cozy, and clean. The bathroom was spacious as was the shower. We had two little balconies and a nice view of the ocean from our room! We will definitely be back in the future!
We stumbled upon Casablanca and were so excited to be staying there! It is a gorgeous property, friendly staff, and great location! Large rooms with kitchenette and living area, 2 balconies, right on the beach, away from the crowds, but walkable to everything! We will be coming back for sure! Thank you for a great stay!
We loved this hotel! We stayed in the penthouse and enjoyed the gorgeous space and the friendly staff! They offered daily housekeeping and nightly security! Our room and view were stunning! Our stay was definitely authentic to Sayulita and we will be coming back to stay again!
Recently stayed at the Casablanca and had a lovely time. Our group made the mistake of looking at the recent reviews on here and completely panicked days before our trip to Sayulita. We were so pleasantly surprised by everything the hotel had to offer. We had two different room types, one in building A (furthest from the beach) a few floors up, and the other in a building closer to the beach on the ground floor. Both rooms were great. True, the ground floor rooms are a bit darker because of the lush plants on the property, but they're still great rooms. We actually reread some of the terrible reviews while relaxing poolside and found them to be kind of crazy and hilarious. If I had to guess, the people who wrote them have never been to Mexico. We did not have a sewer smell from our bathroom, but the times I have had that in Mexico, it was when I was flushing toilet paper - so it makes me wonder if that was the culprit for folks who have complained about that. We left food out on the counter and did see some tiny tiny little ants the next morning, but they disappeared when we put the food in the fridge. The rooms are bright white, and I loved it, it feels very clean. The sheets and towels were fine, but the beds are quite firm (we never had problems getting to sleep, but they are firmer than I'd like). The pool was clean and the beach is a quick stumble away from even the furthest room. We really enjoyed this hotel and will absolutely stay here again! In our experience, after staying in several hotels and airbnbs in town, this location in Sayulita is the best! The only things I would change are the beds, and I would love if they had some sort of fridge behind reception where you could buy canned cocktails, drinks and snacks!
We did not have a pleasant stay at the Casablanca Hotel. In a nutshell, the bed was a board, sheets scratchy, had almost no remaining bottled water and the towels were ripped, stained and threadbare. The toilet paper is in the same holder and of the same quality as a gas station. No dish towels and a tv with no remote. Everything I looked for, was not there. At every turn, I felt like the owners were saying “we want to spend as little on you for your stay as possible.” The shame is that it would not take a lot of money to make the rooms quite comfortable; new beds, linens, some decent tissue and ensuring the room is well stocked. I will say the front desk is helpful and the grounds are absolutely stunning but we won’t be staying again.
Hard pass…. We went for the new year. Left 2 days early. Place was all painted white so everything showed. Reasonably priced but expected it to be nicer with all the good reviews. The only place I would stay is the main house where you have access to the pool on the beach.
Majority of the staffs were friendly and tried to be helpful, the room equipped with the cookware, flatware, mini fridge and a 5 gallon purified water dispenser. I booked a room for 7 days for 4 people. It was not a 5-or 3-stars hotel so I didn’t set too much expectation. Staffs at front desk ( daytime) knows English but the rest of staffs don’t. My standard for hotel is to have a clean room - that's it. Other reviews mentioned the place is dated; it's fine with me. The staffs are trying their best to keep it up, however:
The staircases were not safe for young children, there were trails but the gaps were very big; kids could climb out or fall off from there, so be aware.
Wifi was slow, as the rest of Sayulita. Do not expect to come here to work remotely if your work requires good bandwidth.
The A/C (heat pump unit) in my room was not working at the night of day 3. It dripped water for like 30 mins then making noises for another 30 mins - alternating between water dripping and noise making for the rest of the time from 2 am until the next day. I reached (8ish am) out the front desk for help. After a staff fixed it, the A/C was not able to be turned on with the universal remote control on the evening, probably it was reset, not sure. I was desperate because it was like 38C even at night time, tried to ask the front desk but no one was there except the security guard. He was not able to help because he didn’t speak English. Thus, I returned back to room and tried to figure out what was going on. Then, I realized that the remote control was out of sync/reset. There was no English instruction manual found online for that brand - only Spanish. Good thing was the remote worked the same way as most of the other universal remote control. Checking some YouTube videos for the setup helped and also figured the “channel” code of the A/C brand from the Spanish instruction manual (mirage brand - code 027 or 028) to sync it back then it worked properly.
Starting on day 4, the room was not provided enough bath towels :( - some reviews mentioned that too. I had 4 people but only 2 towels provided. I went to ask the front desk (around 8ish pm) but there was no one except the security guard again. So I tried to talk with him using google translate. After he understood my intention, he was so nice that he went out to another staff’s house for asking help. That staff, who was mainly responsible for maintenance/repair, was already done for his day and I believe he lives close by the hotel since they both came back within 5 mins) He was able to give me extra towels I needed . Sadly, I still didn’t get enough towels again for day 5. I didn’t want to bother asking for help again. Every time that I found out the missing towels was already in the evening and the poor security guard couldn’t help much besides asking another staff for help. Also it wasn’t his fault. I think it is some thing that the cleaning staffs should be aware of - attention to the detail.
The pool itself doesn’t look that clean, there were debris (like plants, bugs, etc.). I saw the staffs sprinkled chlorine powder in the pool once. The water was not so clear which could be told by the water color. It feels like the pool needs a few maintenance - water refresh , fixing the missing or cracked tiles on the pool. In certain part of the pool, you may be able to smell strong paint smell, which I believe (just my assumption) that the room’s floor may be painted every time a guest is checked out from a room since the floor of my room had 0 scratches on day 1 but as long as someone opened the patio door, the door will definitely scratch easily the floor.
Some reviews mentioned that the bathroom smelled like sewage. It was unpleasant, I tried to avoid it propagating out of the bathroom by closing the toilet lid and close the shower door accordingly.
Hot water in shower will run out after 2 people took shower in a row ( max 10 mins) but it will come back after waiting like 10-15 mins, so plan the time accordingly. Good thing is in the middle of the summer so i didn’t mind to take cold shower.
I would like to give a good review, among all the points I brought up above I could handle them, not a big deal… However, the only one thing that was unbearable was bug. The room itself has a lot of tiny bugs (grain of sand sized, looks like ant but not sure) crawling everywhere ( on the kitchen counter, floor, behind the couch, closet, coffee table etc.) l completely understood that the weather was hot and having bugs was unavoidable, but the amount I saw in the room made me very uncomfortable. The patio doors and the unit door had no seal. Basically there were gaps on the top and bottom of the door could let any bugs come in. There were also a gecko and a beetle visiting the room once. I didn’t dare to touch anything or leave anything on anywhere because of those tiny little bugs. Also I prohibited anyone ate in the unit to attract more bugs to come. When I left an item on the table I had to shake violently it a lot to make sure no more bugs. When I packed my luggages, I had to empty them all and make sure I didn’t bring any bug around.
After 5 nights of stay, I decided to leave the hotel, I did not want to make a fuss. The place was cheap but I rather paid a bit more to stay in another hotel so that I could end well my vacation for the last 2 nights. I didn’t ask for a refund for the rest of 2 nights. I understand life is hard, especially after COVID happened and everyone should show sympathy. I just don’t want to make a big deal out of it because it was not the staffs’ fault. However, I would like others know what they are signing up for. Everyone has different tolerance on different things, this hotel may work for some but not others.
Casablanca was a wonderful out of the way hotel right on the beach. It is not a resort. The hotel is an older, traditional style building(s) with a pool in the center of the two buildings. The suites have plenty of room for two with all the amenities to be comfortable for your stay. It is quite a walk to the main plaza but there are several restaurants close by as well as markets for groceries. The beach is right in front. Never felt crowed and all we came across were gracious and friendly. If there was any negative, the WIFI is not “high speed” but didn’t impact anything we needed. The transportation company that works with the hotel has top notch drivers. Loved it!
I stayed here for 8 nights with my extended family, we had 4 rooms including the penthouse.
This place is magical, we all loved it here.
Communication was great before we arrive with Octavio and when we arrived. The woman at the front desk was very welcoming,
my husband and kids went fishing with her husband , a great experience , later we had dinner at the penthouse with the fish that a woman who works at the hotel prepared, all was delicious.
Would definitely return, loved it here.
I slept so great here with the sounds of the ocean
Being a $170 us per night ,I was expecting more for my $. First impressions: Outside checking & lobby makes it uncomfortable/unbearable w/ the heat. Dirt parking lot next to the outside lobby. We were put in bldg A ground level. Room had windows w/no outside view, they were covered w/ plants, palms. It gave a claustrophobic feeling. I asked to be moved, front desk had to check w/ mgr. We were moved to a second level room, then realized the AC was not fully working. Maintenance was sent & verified yes indeed was not fully working. mgr on phone basically said we shouldn't have moved from our assigned room & we should return to it. I told him (Alberto) I couldn't be in that type of room. He gave me 3 options 1. Go back to assigned room 2. Stay in room deal w/ it until tomorrow while they try & fix it. 3. Pay add $20 to be move to bldg B. First of all hotel is not worth $170 room is outdated they are still using "keys" to get in, floors are painted , drapes w/ holes, unstable ceiling fans , kitchen, bathroom tiles/ fixtures need updating, TV is a joke. For being a so called " Beach front " there is no views from bldg A. The Beach in front of Hotel is not friendly waves are strong & dangerous . Hotel walking distance is far away from downtown activities. Long story short, I told Alberto those were not options for me. I would like a refund so that I could go to a different hotel. He said that needed to be done through email & there was no guaranteed they would get back to us the same day( internet/ phone service was down that day in Sayulita) I told him I was not happy & more likely would write a review so no one else would deal w/ this type of situation. He said that was my right to do so. Again he gave me the 3 options. I was not going to stay in a claustrophobic room, the not fully working AC at least had an outside view. He said the owner Octavia would charge him the $20 if he let us in the other bldg. For $20 dollars they kept an unsatisfied customer.. at the end he provided an additional fan for the night since they were to replace the AC the next day. Out the whole entire day came back at 9pm to a room w/ a "new" NON working AC. We went back down to let hem know, after it was verified that in deed it was not turning on at all. It was close to midnight & They decided to move us to the 3rd floor and yes the AC worked it had a sky view. I am very disappointed that they could of avoided all this. Being low season bldg A was empty we were the only ones there. Everyone else was staying at the penthouse, bldg B & C . The employees are wonderful & tried there best to make things work. Alberto ( mgr)at the end finally apologized in person but the damage had been done. I told him the hotel is NOT worth the $ .
The hotel is very old and dated. The pictures on line make it look good, but it's not! Only thing good is the service people trying really hard running a run down hotel and the penthouse, other than that this should be a 2 star and $50.00 per night hotel more than that your getting ripped off .
My family stayed in the 'penthouse' over Christmas and LOVED it!! The view is incredible. Like mesmerizing. It's a special suite and we will remember it for a lifetime. Unfortunately, my husband has a bad knee that acts up occasionally, so 4 flights of stairs were a little challenging. Don't book the penthouse if you have mobility issues. That being said... we all loved it. The open air 'treehouse' feel was very cool. The kitchen was equipped with whatever we needed although we mostly ate out in Sayulita.
The internet was a little hit or miss, my kids spent a fair amount of time at the pool to soak up the best wifi. The pool was very clean and the beach was STUNNING. They got surf lessons down the beach.
The staff were great and were very helpful. I believe the hotel was fully booked but never felt busy. Free bottled water is available in the room and the front entrance.
I will be coming back.
We had a great experience at this hotel. The front desk staff are extremely helpful from recommending restaurants, booking a rental car, booking covid tests (so we could return to the US). It has a nice pool and is steps to the beach with beach chairs and umbrellas for guests. We stayed in a room on the second floor and it had two quaint balconies-one in the living area, one off of the bedroom, both very private with the surrounding foliage and the ocean so close we could hear the waves. If you are high maintenance expecting first class amenities this is not your spot; but if you are into a boutique hotel experience with amazing staff, this is your spot.
I would love to give them a higher rating because there are so many things that I love about the hotel...but they had horrible internet. We often had NO service in our room. They tried to make it better, which was nice, but ultimately their solution was for us to come down to the front desk area to use the internet. We actually did that to take our online Covid-19 test, but still lost internet 2 times and lost one of the test completely because of the broken connection and almost lost another one. The rooms are clean and nice. Air conditioning only in the bedroom but in February that was fine. Heated pool and hot tub on the roof was nice too. The location on the beach can't be beat. Far enough out of town to be away from the crowded beach, but close enough to walk to anything.
Very disappointing hotel for the price. We were initially checked into our hotel, to find many of listed amenities were not actually included/working (TV, A/C,Safe). Further their included toiletries must only mean soap, as there was not shampoo or conditioner. The site lists 2 pools, yet one is a private pool only available to the Main-House suite. Privacy is a minimal for the balconies and windows. 3rd floor rooms are located right underneath a rooftop hot tub, which makes for unfathomably loud noise from the pumps, jets, drains, etc. all through the night as well as the noise associated with any people using the hot tub. We were relocated to the 2nd floor, where the hot tub noises were still loud, but manageable. The rooms are open air concept, so allows for bugs/critters to enter your room (which we were ok with). The big problem with the open air concept was noise at night from everywhere. The club down the street bumping music, the night guard talking on the phone at the entrance, people from other rooms, etc. Peace and quite is impossible here. Stained/ripped sheets, curtains, towels, blankets were the normal. Finding anything unstained was a pleasant surprise. Internet in the rooms was spotty, and generally only available from certain parts of the room. Staff was friendly though.
El hotel es magnífico.
Buenas instalaciones, gran comodidad.
I had a month long holiday booked here 8 months in advance. My son loves to surf and I love the beach so I rented the penthouse for the first two weeks and the main house for the last two.
Anyhow, due to COVID which the owner Octavio kept denying was indeed in Sayulita bc my sons surf camp closed one week into our trip bc a group of 9 people from Vail, CO brought the virus to this town. The surf camp did not want the liability and promised me a refund for the days unused and all restaurants were closed but we only went out two nights bc we were too scared. I also received a refund from the golf cart company for this bc we had to turn it in 10 days into the trip.
Octavio definitely knew about COVID being in the town bc our last 4 days while in the penthouse which was about 10 flights of steps upstairs, we could smell a strong odor of bleach. It's a very small hotel so we made friends with several of the guests that were staying right by the pool. Apparently, he was having his staff bleach the pool and all around it daily. That could have killed anyone that would have gone swimming. Luckily, we all knew not to swim and etc.
Anyhow, the borders were being closed in Canada and the States so everyone was rushing to find flights home. Ours got cxld several times which was annoying bc we could not enjoy our trip. There were also many things wrong with the room, the bathrooms smelled of sewage and most appliances did not work. The curtain rods also fell down on my head along with my 6 yo child and his godmother that was also on the trip with us.
Needless to say the world is facing a global crisis with COVID and by Mexican law the owner is required to give me a refund. Instead he said he would give me a two week credit off season in the main house. Meanwhile I paid for the high season and this is truly unacceptable. I do not want to revisit Sayulita because of our experience at the property. The hotel also convinces people to take a car service that they own for 180-200 use to and from the airport. A regular car service is only 40.00 usd. All of my other friends that had to leave various parts of Mexico or anywhere in the world for that matter received a full refund.
The owner should indeed issue a refund which is around 15,000.00 USD. I have a friend that is an attorney there even call Octavio to discuss and he hung up on her within 30 seconds. She will be reporting him if I do not receive a refund within the next 10 days. It's completely unacceptable and illegal. Oh, the beaches also closed the morning we were lucky enough to fly out! Yet, he still claims he is fully occupied and there is nothing to worry about. He claims it was our choice to leave which it wasn't!!!! This is a Pandemic and I deserve a refund immediately. The employees of the hotel were all wearing masks the day we left but he still claims there is not and never was an issue!
