Frokosten...trykket i dusjen.....handdukane
Mykje støy i spisesalen
Beautiful location, delightful staff, very peaceful
There were no salads serviced with the meals in the restaurant
Beliggenhet
I booked my stay at Sola Strand Hotel about nine months in advance. I arrived before the official check-in time, and the reception staff were friendly and kindly checked whether another room was already available. I appreciated their effort and helpful attitude.
Unfortunately, the room I was offered had significant issues that should have been explained beforehand. The room itself was pleasant, but it was located directly behind a fire door leading to another corridor. When the door was open, it affected access to my room. After closing it, I discovered that every time guests used the corridor and the heavy door closed, it caused loud noise and noticeable vibrations throughout the room. It became impossible to relax, and I therefore requested a room change.
Because the hotel was fully booked, the only alternative available was a room much farther away from the main building. This room offered very little comfort for a hotel in this price category: there were no bedside tables or wardrobe, too few power outlets, the refrigerator was not plugged in, the curtains could not be fully closed, and the window was noticeably dirty.
I was also surprised that hotel guests have to pay an additional fee to use the sauna and swimming pool. While it is understandable that treatments such as massages are charged separately, I had not expected general access to the wellness facilities to require an extra payment. The charge of 250 NOK for two hours felt high to me, especially considering the overall price level of the hotel. The wellness area itself did not provide features that, in my opinion, justified this additional cost. For example, the only hourglass in the 90-degree sauna was not functioning properly.
Future guests should also be aware that the hotel is quite isolated. Sola is approximately 5 km away (around a 50-minute walk), and there are no supermarkets or alternative restaurants within comfortable walking distance. Without a car, taxi, or bicycle, guests are largely dependent on the hotel for meals and everyday shopping.
As a solo traveller, I personally missed a greater sense of welcome and attentiveness. The staff were friendly, but the overall guest experience felt less personal and less well organized than I would have expected.
While I personally was able to afford this stay, I believe the overall price level makes it even more important that guests receive a corresponding standard of comfort, service, and transparency. For many travellers, a stay at this price point represents a significant investment, and the experience should reflect that. Clear communication about additional costs and a consistently high level of service are especially important in this category.
The location by the beach is beautiful, and the hotel has a wonderful concept. However, the room allocation, reservation handling, facilities, and overall value for money did not meet my expectations for a hotel in this price category. The operational management and attention to detail need improvement to match the expectations created by the hotel’s pricing and reputation.
