Make sure you get a room with a balcony view, the views are stunning! This is a fabulous hotel right on the northern part of Lake Como which is a slightly quieter tourist area. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with a safe provided, the only thing they didn’t have was air conditioning but we just left the door open on the balcony overnight which let in a cool enough breeze to keep us reasonably comfortable.
There is no restaurant but there is a lovely buffet style breakfast provided and we found the staff were more than happy to order food in for us in the evening from a local pizza/pasta restaurant which we enjoyed on our balcony on our last night with drinks from the bar on site. On the other evenings we ate out at local restaurants. There is a lovely pool and terrace area outside but we actually swam in the lake which was lovely.......word of warning.....make sure you have flip flops for around the pool area as they don’t allow outdoor shoes on the poolside area for hygiene reasons which is more than fair and if you want to go in the lake, water shoes would be a good idea as it was quite rocky and there were sharp stones which are uncomfortable with bare feet to say the least.
The lakeside cycle path and walk way is right outside which gives you access to all the lakeside views and safe way to get to the local town away from any traffic.
Had a great 5 nights here. We chose this place as it was cheaper than staying in the mid lake triangle and had the benefit of gorgeous lake views and space to relax. Connected to Regina hotel - used all their facilities eg pool, breakfast, bar etc. We arrived late on the first night due to flight delays and the staff were very helpful in allowing us to order a pizza (well actually doing that for us) into the hotel.
The room in the Crotto itself was lovely and had a lake view from the balcony. Very comfy bed and newly renovated bathroom.
Easy enough to get around Lake Como with the ferry and c10 bus connections. Had a nice meal at Ca de Mat in Gravedona and Ajo in Domaso. Worthwhile spending days in Bellagio, Varenna and at the villas near Tremezzo (Carlotta and Balbianello).
Just lucked upon it because it was in the Garmin GPS destinations when we felt it was time to stop. It's how we generally travel, happenstance.
Great luck this time. Room is not fancy but clean, comfortable and modern. Great bathroom and shower. The balcony is literally on Lake Como, overlooking sunbathers and the pool. Parking. Superb breakfast buffet. Nicest staff.
We're staying a 2nd nite. First was in a 2-star room at €100 which was great although uphill across the street. We moved to one in the main building because the other was booked next day. The 3-star room is even better and excellent value at €130.
You look at the lovely mountains surrounding lovely Lake Como from your room and balcony and imagine how much better it can be. This is a destination place. Great luck.
Last night we had a meal recommended by staff at a resto nearby – serious gourmet local fare and wine. Lovely friendly people.
Versus yesterday in Lichtenstein Hotel Lowen? Day and night difference in every positive way.
And quiet, just gently lapping water on the shoreline, occasional sailboats ... sigh ... great destination or just a waypoint.
Our stay in crotto regina was amazing we stayed 4 nights and were blown away by the value for money.. The crotto is at the back of the hotel which means it is on a hill where we can get a full view of the lake from our balcony, we got to use all the hotel facilities including the pool right on the edge of the lake.. The staff are excellent, the lady that runs the crotto was lovely and the staff in the hotel just the same.. The room we stayed in was nicer than some of the 4 star hotels iv stayed in australia.. Would highly reccomend to anybody looking for a relaxing stay..
