This deposit is refundable if the booking is canceled more than 24 hours prior to arrival.
Cancelations made within 24 hours of arrival will forfeit the deposit.

It was very close to restaurants. Can get some food within walking distance. Reasonable priced and not to far from Port Stephens.

It's good if you are not fussy
Pros:

It's situated at the village shopping centre. Plenty of food and drink options. Nice and clean room with all working amenities.

Cons:

The beds were too soft. There are no dedicated spots to park the car. And not all cars can be accommodated in the space near the rooms. Late arrivals may need to park at the lot near the pub. All the food options close early, by 9pm. Even the Dominos and KFC close at 9:30, in summer (Jan).

The checkin experience was disappointing. The young man at the pub insisted that we share our credit card details with him orally, for him to input that into his billing system to charge a holding fee of $50. We offered to pay in any way other than compromising the security of our credit card. He said there was no other facility in place and couldn't collect payment from the bar register. He insisted that this was common practice across Australia and even challenged that he has travelled more than I have. And he threatened that he could refuse our booking.

He relented and gave us the room key after my wife intervened and re-iterated potential credit card fraud in this method.

There still are a few old-fashioned hotels in Australia that take a holding deposit. But they have a secure facility to accept and release payment, without having to compromise the security of a credit card.

Motel with nearby facilities a bonus. Shame about no compromise for late checkout.
Pros:

Locality was central to my needs.

Cons:

A requested late checkout by only 1 hour was meet with a $25 fee. Despite requesting this fee to be wavered, because it was only one hour, the booking staff wouldn’t budge. Obviously I declined.
