Séjour agréable dans un lieu paisible au milieu de la ville. Service impeccable et délicieux restaurant!
Staff were friendly and helpful. Did my laundry within one day. The breakfast and dinner were good. Kettle and tea in the room was very welcome. It was a good location for me as I wanted somewhere near the metro. The internet was a bit patchy, mostly dropped out after connecting. Lots of hot water. Good fan and À/C
Great location, good ambience! Tap in the bathroom was broken.
Sorry not upto the Mark. Substandard esp the bathrooms rooms
Good overall
I was very comfortable. The whole place was clean as could be, the ceiling fan in the room was efficient. The food was very good and excellent value and lavish in quantity. I am very happy to recommend this guesthouse.
Séjour agréable. Les chambres sont propres et confortables. Très bon rapport qualité/prix
Bonne adresse mais un peu excentrée
The compound has a nice garden. The desk staff is not very helpful. All in all, I think the facility is a bit overpriced.
I liked my stay at the guest house very much. It is an old building, don’t expect new interiors and that it is super clean. It was bright, comfortable and spacious; I was also able to work at the desk (I booked the Deluxe Double Room, Garden View). I am a solo female traveller and felt very safe. The best thing is the food! Especially, in the evening it tastes like home cooked meals. Also the entry has comfortable chairs to relax and the greenery around is nice. You can walk to the metro station Egmore (just have to cross the street which is a tiny bit challenging.)
Rude, uncourteous and robbing attitude of staffs abd management of an international organization was shocking.
I booked for 10 days in the first week of May, for the dates,May 27th to June 5th, but I chkd in on 26th itself a standard AC room for 2 adults, at the time of direct phone call booking the tariff I was told was INR 2476, inclusive of GST and complimentary breakfast for 2...while checking in on May 26th, I was told by the female front desk incharge that 8 had to pay first for 2 days and then pay the rest in incriments for my 10 days stay,I wasasked to pay INR 2594 per day, when I asked why change she literally slapped a tariff card in front of my face.
I paid INR 5188,on 27th ,there was another manager to whom I paid for the next 4 days till May 31st, he charged INR w500 per day, I asked why the change he said something like its like that it will decrease after initial payment, but didn't give me any details.
On May 30th I said, to the same male front desk manager I will pay the balance 4 days till 5th,he said there will be a tariff change and he can help me to have a late check out if I pay on June 1st, when I asked what does he means by tariff change, he said some unclear technical margon about chk out chk in tining etc.
On June 1st, when I went to pay the female staff was there, she asked me to pay a balance of Rs 200 for the previous 6 days I asked her to show me the invoice and made her do a tariff calculation, that's when I was told the first day of stay all guests are charged INR 100 as club associations fee and rest of the days,INR2476, so I was akteady charged INR 214 excess, then she apologized and said since today on June 1st it will be considered a new check in ,,I had to pay for the breakfast INR 200 per head, I said I won't as I am going to continue my stay, then she reluctantly Saud ok pay for one person, I said NO , I don't want any adjustments for late check out, and I will pay right wlaway for the next 4 days.
Then came the shocker, she said rhe room tariff for 1 day now isINR 3900, I asked how cone they hiked 50% in one night and without information and also I hooked for 10 days when the tariff was 2476, the management refused to budge
In the end I refused to pay 3900 for June 1st and paid the old tariff a d checked out and was fortunate enough to find a better place with much better tariff nearby.
They don't keep enough water bottles, nor do they clean impeccably, no room service, breakfast is decent, property is good, for public transport but rooms are old and just one plug point
Very clean
Rooms need face lift. Staff look relaxed and not worried to help.
Dinning area should be clean.
Food served is not hot.
House keeping not done daily.
Toiletries are of poor quality.
Bed sheets and towels are not properly cleaned.
Furniture is pathetic.
absolutely appalling. birds living in the bathroom, rats were living in the room, the ceilings and walls were falling down from mold, there is old furniture, junk and trash strewn everywhere, there was no wifi, no air conditioning, the "garden" is strewn with trash. when i showed up at 2am they tried to charge me for a prepaid booking saying they couldn't find the confirmation; when i told them i was leaving the next morning they refused to refund me anything, i had to file a credit card chargeback. their pictures are heavily doctored, check out my photos for proof! the price is outrageous compared to the actual conditions, this is a totally unchanged old flophouse. the most disgusting place and people i've encountered in SE asia and i've been digital nomading for 4 years. my g**gle reviews of this place keep mysteriously disappearing, so i'm posting here and hoping to prevent others from making my mistake.
The YWCA international guest house is the worst hotel I have ever been to. Half of the rooms especially on the 3rd floor have water damage, some even had mold;this caused me to switch rooms 4 times. They also do your laundry and always loose something. I went with a group of around 25 people and everyone said the lost at least one thing. The WiFi here is super unpredictable and can shut down for days without notice. The list of things that are wrong go on and on, you see them during every minute of your stay.
The price is reasonable, there is a free breakfast, and there is a warm shower. It's simple and not luxurious, and the building is old, but it has a good feeling. There are many hotels around Chennai where you can stay 24 hours from check-in. This is also the case, and I asked them to change the check-in time for online reservations. Because I arrived in Chennai by sleeper train, so I wanted to enter the room early in the morning. It is a pity that only one wi-fi can be connected at the same time.
After the Covidt the standard of International Guest House ,Chennai has drastically dropped. The internet was not functioning. The international credit card was not accepted.Booked Rooms were wrongly assigned and overcharged.
The new staff needs training.May be from the old staff
We were not satisfied with the overall stay.
We have been a regular loyal visitors for years.

This is a quiet place , nice and green and silent, tucked away in the heart of the city right opposite Egmore metro station that helps you connect with any part of chennai easily.
The infrastructure is very good, staff are very courteous and hygiene is well maintained .
Dinner is usually simple vegetarian fare.
Stayed 4 nights in an AC room. Limited hot water - my husband & I had a few cold showers. Mosquitoes in room - management should have mosquito zappers in powerpoints. The window in our bathroom did not have a screen. Quiet so good sleep quality. Wifi available. There is an elevator. Breakfast is a combination of Indian & western offerings (included in tariff). Lunch & dinner (veg & non-veg) also available for an extra charge & needs to be ordered. List of snacks, drinks are listed in the room & times when they are available - sadly no one told the kitchen! Good position being diagonally opposite the Egmore metro & railway stations. You can use the metro to get to the YWCA from the airport or vice versa. On enquiring, management gave me the contact number for a reliable taxi driver.
Despite having paid a 50% deposit back in November, front desk staff members were oblivious to the fact. As a consequence, checkout was a confused, drawn out process.
It is a reasonably priced place to stay & well located. It could be so much more if more effort was made to cater for tourists (although I do believe that that's not in its charter). Maps of the area would've been helpful, pointing out simple things like location of ATMs, supermarkets, restaurants.
I found the YWCA of Madras International Guest house clean and spacious and with a nice breakfast and dinner service. It has good showers and toilets & also free Wi-Fi and a nice guest computer to use.
The gardens are pretty even though they’re a little underutilized and dry. I would highly recommend this place for safety, cleanliness, and polite friendly staff.
On the other hand, it was hard for me to make contact via phone and email with the guest house and I was initially told there was no room available and had to talk in person w/ the desk person to find out that there really was a room. I hope you can use a better booking system & have better luck in getting through to make a reservation in advance. Do be persistent.
Finally, I would like to suggest that there would be yoga mats and an exercise space inside and out doors for people to do yoga and stay fit and maybe a group movie night in the lobby or somesuch.
I hope many more guests come enjoy this wonderful affordable International Guest House well located near the railroad, buses and plenty of rickshaws.
Best,
