Pros:

First of all, I want to mention that this hotel was the last stop of our trip around Sri Lanka, so by that point we had already experienced the service and hospitality in many other places across the island.

The positives: a beautiful ocean view from the room and a spacious room size.

Cons:

The negatives: the staff (except for one woman at the reception, unfortunately I didn’t catch her name). The staff genuinely seemed not to care about guests at all. People walked around looking as if you owed them something. We had gotten used to friendly and welcoming people everywhere else on the island — but not here. The kitchen staff spoke as if they were doing you a favor simply by being there.

I would also like to specifically mention the breakfasts — they were greasy, very greasy. After a week of those breakfasts, an unprepared stomach might suffer 😁

No one here smiles at you; the staff simply do their jobs with completely emotionless faces.

Another major issue was the total lack of soundproofing. We stayed on the 3rd floor and could clearly hear screaming children from the corridor and the neighboring room at 11 PM, conversations near the reception, and other noise. When I asked to be moved somewhere quieter, I was only told, “Sorry, everything is occupied.” We came to relax, not to listen to screaming and arguments.

The room itself was not bad, except for one strange detail: from the toilet/shower area, everything was visible into the bedroom because the staff had installed the curtain backwards. As a result, you could never fully block the view into the bathroom, and people in the bedroom could still see you showering or using the toilet, which was uncomfortable.

To me, this place felt heavily overrated purely because of its ocean view. So if you are considering this hotel, think carefully about how much you are willing to hear everything happening around you — and do not expect the same level of hospitality you may find in other parts of Sri Lanka.

Amazing views, setting and overall hotel experience but service needs slight improvement

Amazing views, setting and lounge/pool on top floor. Also checkout service was brilliant - staff allowed us to use the spa shower as our taxi was scheduled for after the official check out time.

Cons:

Overall service needs some improvement. Despite elements being great there were issues such as very slow service at breakfast/restaurant, times no staff were present at the bar by pool/top floor (I had to walk to reception to order drinks on occasion), housekeeping only happens if you put a tag on the outside of the door to make up room which wasn’t explained up front until I called (would have thought it makes more sense to put a tag on the door to not make up the room).

Additionally, shower room smelt strange (potentially the in-house toiletries) and the pool caused the white sections of our clothes to go orange on one day - staff mentioned it could have been chemicals but were unsure.

We stayed at Agnes Hotel and the entire experience was negative. The receptionist was not welcoming at all, and the welcome drink was poor quality.
The staff overall were unfriendly and the service was very low standard. When we asked the security guard to park our brand new SUV in the covered area, he flat-out refused and said it was “only for staff.”
Is this how you handle paying customers? Pathetic.
The only “pro” is that they seem to read reviews, but nothing improves. The low occupancy at the hotel says it all their service is the problem.
Would not recommend and won’t be returning.

Pros:

Un rapport qualité prix inégalable . En effet, tant le personnel que les services proposés sont d un très très très haut standing ! De plus, la gentillesse des professionnels est à souligner !!! Je vous recommande les yeux fermés cet hôtel ainsi que le cadre qu’il offre tant par la piscine que la vue de la chambre !!!! Foncez !!!
