Authentic experience
Pros:

Experience of sleeping on the floor and nice traditional deco homes. Very authentic. Quiet. Quick check in and check out.

Cons:

Little warning, there is no kitchen available.

Good stay
Pros:

Lovely traditional style and the staff were very nice. Washing facilities were useful . The beds were comfortable . The location was perfect if you don’t want to be in the main tourist trap!

Cons:

There was a strange smell in the bathroom that was a bit unpleasant but did not ruin the stay.

Not recommended at all. Complex check in, they tell you to check in at the train station, far away, nobody at the hotel.

It is unacceptable that there is nobody at the reception — neither for check-in, nor during the stay, nor at check-out. You are simply alone, with nobody to support you and nobody to help if something happens. It is basically a self-service hotel.

Lovely machiya in the old district of Kyoto
Pros:

Absolutely lovely stay! Had a great time (and sleep) at this machiya, very beautiful and perfect to head out early to the major Kyoto (sometimes crowded) sites. The staff was also very kind and helpful!
