Staff were kind and helpful. The casual cafe on the lobby floor was especially useful. The location is excellent for dining and shopping. The steakhouse was also tasty and pretty.
It is an old building but it is charming.
Great location & an amazing restaurant.
Nothing
I've stayed here many times over the years as this once grand hotel has declined into mediocrity but my most recent stay was a new low. This place is just awful. The ownership doesn't care about providing a positive or even acceptable guest experience. The historic grand entry on Union Square has been closed to guests so that the owners could lease space to a new restaurant. They hotel entry is now a dark, dinghy corridor off Geary Street, adjacent to a bus stop that attracts transients. During my stay, two of three elevators for the Landmark building were out of service, with waits for an elevator of up to 10 minutes. My room (a Classic Suite) had an odd smell and there no robes or slippers. The bed was too soft and the pillows too thick and hard. Front desk was understaffed and when I went to check out the agent literally turned away mid-sentence to engage in a lengthy conversation with another employee, completing ignoring me. Note for Marriott elites - the policy here is now to upgrade a maximum of only one room class from your booked room, no matter your status.
i like the vibe of the hotel, it's gives out a nostalgic atomsphere. Especially the restaurant area,. (steak house)
We walked into the lobby to find a floral wonderland! Walking through blossoming trees and arches of cascading flowers added to the timeless beauty of the Westin Saint Francis. The staff is so positive and welcoming. The valet, registration staff waiters, and housekeeping each made us feel welcome and offered to make our stay a great one. As platinum members we were offered an upgrade. The hotel fee includes a $20 food credit and water bottles that can be filled at gourmet water machines.
Our room was a junior king. Suite in the landmark building with a full view of Union Square. The room has all the comfort you’d expect staying at the Westin hotel and the room offers historical atmosphere while being up to date with design. Breakfast in the Club Lounge was one of the best we have experienced in a lovely room. Great variety of offerings both hot and cold, in keeping with Westin’s wellness approach. Very fresh. We could not have been more delighted with our stay here!
The location is wonderful and the maintenance is excellence
The Rito restaurant closes too early!, 9pm, it should close at least 11pm, and later on weekends
The location is great, and we really enjoyed an after symphony nightcap in the Bourbon lounge
The hotel is understaffed. We waited ten minutes at the luggage desk to pick up our stored bss. The obey is also disappointingly generic. The old elegance is largely gone.
Nice rooms, best part was meeting Jeff. He was friendly and went out of his way to get info I needed. Best service ever. My son and I were there for the Super bowl. We came from Wyoming and did not the area. He was a Great help! Bert & Susie
Spent 3 nights here, staff were so friendly and helpful.
We arrived close to midnight and the front desk agent was nice and she explained everything about the hotel. We had a king room union sqare view and it was very nice. You can tell its an old building, but its very modern and updated. Loved the chandelier in the room, big closet, bathroom is a little tight if 2 people were trying to get ready at the same time.
We had access to the lounge and it was great, the lounge staff were always greeting us and quick to refill and clean up. We loved the breakfast options, french toast or pancakes, scrambled eggs or fritata, sausage or bacon. Juices, coffee and tea. Plenty of seating.
We mostly used uber to get around which was always under 10 mins of a wait. Cable car stop is also by the hotel which was convenient.
We also had dinner at the Bourbon Steak Restaurant which is at the hotel and it was nice to just take our time. Restaurant is also amazing!
Overall, highly recommend and would stay again.
Pretty safe to walk around daytime, but always be cautious around.
Location and quality of faciliities
I was charged by booking.com months ago and charged by Westin as well. Westin said they will return the money but it hasnt occurred yet.
The location of this hotel was perfect. Close to shops and restaurants.
The room was a huge disappointment. The bathroom is definitely in need of a remodel. They need to put in a walk in shower especially for older adults. Also the day we were leaving we found a roach in our room. We understand that we are staying in a major city but it was still unsettling to say the least.
Top hotel, in great location, rooms super lovely with the Westin Heavenly beds - best hotel beds!
From check-in with Elaine - who was super lovely, guiding me through all the perks and benefits which include $10 Uber voucher per day to Jeff at the conceirge who is super great at guiding through what to do / where and helping with just about anything full of energy and consideration
great service
one comment is that sometimes staff seem to be in the back more than they are front of house, and waiting time can be slow, not sure what they all do in the back for 5-10 minutes and take breaks at same time but it does impact service - just an observation!
We had the best time!!! We stayed in the original hotel (not the towers), which made the stay so perfect and historical.
Our room had a view of Union Square which was perfect. Hotel has always been a favorite of mine, and one my late grandfather would always choose when on business trips to SF.
The room was spacious and nice. Room could use a touch up with paint on the walls trim and areas of the bathroom/bathroom door that had wear n tear and visible damage. But otherwise, simply ideal for me.
Will be back. My kids loved it too, esp exploring the hotel grounds, dining at the steakhouse, and everything that makes this place majestic, historical and elegant.
