It's an old but nice building on the south end of santa barbara. Walkable to the Funk district. Rooms are large, but sparse. Some rooms with balconies have zero privacy - you are right next to your neighbor. The restaurant is good. Friendly guests - staff not as friendly. Very dog friendly. Good overall, but I'd pick some place else next time.
This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful amenities and a very friendly staff. We could see and hear the ocean from our room and thoroughly enjoyed the very nicely heated pool in February! We also did not need to leave the hotel for anything. There are on site restaurants and drinks you can purchase in the lobby to take back to your room if you want.
This is a wonderful property and very central to great food, wine, shops and the beach. The rooms were spacious. The restaurants on-site were great. The hotel staff was very friendly. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice stay at a reasonable price and in proximity to everything. Being able to walk across the street to the beach was a highlight. The ambience was perfect for a weekend getaway.
Super close to downtown and Funkzone. Breakfast was good quality. All staff were respectful and friendly. Room was clean. I had no complaints whatsoever! Everything went smoothly. We hardly had to wait for anything either, be it the valet getting our car, assistance with bags, food at the restaurants, etc.
My experience at this hotel was terrible. In fact I ended my stay early and moved to a different hotel as a result.
When I arrived in my room I found that it was missing some basics like trash cans and the safe in the room was non-functional. I called and requested to have these fixed my first night. I also requested an office chair to use in the room. As I was there for work and need a chair to be able to sit and work at.
During what should have been a week-long stay I shortened to two days because during the two days I was there it was so horrible. Not only the condition but the treatment I received.
At that point I was so infuriated I contacted my work travel agency and requested to move to another hotel. Thus I left early ending my stay before it was originally planned to end.
On top of this I would also like to add how infuriating it was when I first pulled up to find out that it was going to cost me $48 a night to park my car. Outrageous, but that's really the cherry on top of this terrible experience.

Great location next to the zoo. Rooms are really nice, but we were not in the main building and had no view even though we booked it that way.
Property is a little dated but overall clean. The pool is relaxing but hot tub was very dirty the first day. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Restaurants on site are a plus with great vegetarian options which I loved. Hotel bikes are limited and could stand to be updated but are great to take out. The only option to park is $48/night valet which is insane. This should be included in the hotel price. On top of that there was a $35/day resort fee which is also crazy and should be included. This is not a resort. I did however enjoy the Bocce Ball and corn hole. The coffee provided in the lobby was not very good. Bed was comfortable and shower/bathroom was nice.
We love the Mar Monte Hotel! We've stayed every year the past 3 annual trips and will continue to book here. The entire staff from the bell hops, valet, front desk, to housekeeping are all so pleasant, friendly, attentive, and professional. Not to mention the perfect location of this place with absolutely beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. Also, big shoutout to Kirin from Cafe Lido, she is the best!
Awesome staff and the location is hard to beat! The amenities, food and service were amazing, but the food and valet were pricey. I have stayed on multiple occasions, and always book there when needing to spend the night in the Santa Barbara area, as the location can't be beat.
The company I work for offered us special discounted rates at 2 hotels. It was directly across from the beach. The rooms were clean and the shower was roomy. The bed was comfortable, but the hotel is old and you can hear the guest upstairs making every move. It is very noisy. The afternoon bartender Karen was GREAT! But the morning guy was horrible and very unsanitary.
We had another amazing stay! The setting is gorgeous and our room had such a beautiful view. The ocean waves were so great to listen to at night. The Mar Monte treats their Hyatt Globalists in a way that far exceeds any other Hyatt Hotel we have stayed.
Had a wonderful time celebrating my husbands birthday with family. Such a lovely location with outstanding hotel amenities. Will return without a doubt.

Stayed here this weekend and had an excellent experience with customer service. We booked a quick weekend trip through Costco, which had a great deal. The first room we checked into had a minor issue, and since the hotel was sold out that night, we weren’t able to move immediately. It was nothing significant and manageable for one night. The following day, we were moved to a new room with no further issues.
The rooms are nice and I loved the bathroom decor! The food here was amazing too! The location is right across from the beach! There is a cute playground at the beach and lots of volleyball courts!
Additionally, the manager, Gavin, was absolutely amazing, very kind, professional, and attentive. He took great care of us and ensured everything was handled smoothly. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Mar Monte Hotel Santa Barbara. High price, average experience. The in room coffee maker didn't forcing us to purchase the weak, expensive coffee in their restaurant. Only 1 chair in the room so we weren't able to have a meal in the room. Expected balcony and didn't have one
What stood out the most was the exceptional service, especially from Danielle at the front desk. We arrived tired after a long drive, and she immediately made everything better. She was warm, professional, and genuinely kind, making check-in effortless and stress-free. Danielle took the time to answer our questions, offered helpful suggestions, and made us feel truly welcome. Her positive attitude and care completely changed the tone of our arrival and set us up for a great stay. She is a true asset to the hotel and made our experience much better than expected.
To All CEO & All Upper Higher Managements: keeping the very dissatisfied story short as possible. Being a well known, luxury, expensive, pricey hotel chain if your rooms are not properly fully equipped and running properly; then please never ever again rent out those rooms to any guests. Being an American all my life for almost 60 years, my family have never encountered this issue ever before. Europe and Asian Countries give out way better hospitality services then Hyatt does. Greatly unbelievable, unfortunate, and very disappointed for our American US Citizens!
I have stayed at Mar Monte Hotel many times since 2006. While it’s changed companies. The hotel staff and owners were wise to update everything. This is especially important to me because it is such a great location and within my budget. Thank you!
No complaints. A little short-staffed, but that is a COVID issue I see everywhere. The staff was incredible though.
