Location
Basic dining options, Weird smell in the hallway
Charming beach resort
I didn’t appreciate added charges on both days for gift shop items that were never purchased. I had to call back twice to have them removed from my bill. Unacceptable.
The location was excellent and very convenient.
The elevator was broken during our stay, and the room had an old, musty smell.
Great location - across the street from the beach. Also conveniently located very close to restaurants, shops and other sites of interests
Great location with the beach across the street. The room feels small but has full amenities and kept clean. There can be occasional noises from the hallway. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Great value overall for WOH members.
Just across the road from beach, Mar Monte is in a great location. The lobby has great ambience and is great for hanging out and relaxing. We were able to switch to a room with bath tub after checking in to a shower-only room and it was only because of availability.
Great location! Friendly and helpful hotel personnel, easy check in/out, lovely cozy outdoor seating, clean and comfortable room and bedding, beautiful ocean views, EV charging stations, everything you’d hope for in a hotel. Walking distance to many restaurants , the pier and directly in front of the beach. Thank you Hyatt! We will be back!
Great! Except put in second floor next to elevator, which were the 2 requests we asked to avoid. I could not sleep with noise all night.
Locate right across the street of East Santa Barbara beach. An outstanding petite hole for all occasions! The room is spacious and clean!
Absolutely love this hotel. The staff is amazing and the views from the oven view balcony are great! The location is perfect, across the street from the beach and close to walking to lots of restaurants and shops. We enjoy coming back every year and will continue vacations here to make more memories. I would highly recommend this hotel!
Location. Right by the ocean. Clean rooms, well appointed.
Check-in at 4pm was chaotic. Other guests got served first with luggage service before me. I ended up getting the luggage myself after waiting in the room for 20 min and going down to find all my luggage piled in front of the valet station and seeing later arrivals getting the luggage cart loaded already.
Breakfast was great, not exactly traditional- the ricotta pancakes (kids menu) were awesome. I got Eggs Benedict and it was served with BAGUETTE,not expected english muffin. I did not enjoy it. Purists be aware.
Families in room noise- Walls and floors are on the thinner side. You may want to request first floor room because the floors do not seem that insulated. We got put on the farthest building (of 3) on the third floor. My 2 yr old is an early riser and got up at 6 am. She was NOT running around, had no shoes on, and was not crying/screaming. We got some irate guest from downstairs knocking angrily on our door not once, but twice, and then ultimately called our room complaining of "noice since 6 am". We were out after 7 for breakfast so how much noice was he really experiencing? It was bordering on harassment. If we stayed another night, we would have requested a room change. Of note, there was a baby staying in a neighboring room and we were able to hear the crying inside our room. I will say, the doors are REALLY THICK because we couldn't really tell the dude knocking was actually on our door lol.
Location of the extra building (Palmero House) was not clearly communicated, and noise level was unreasonable. The initial room I was given was severely downplayed in terms of distance. When I mentioned being uncomfortable walking down to it after dark for the first time, the receptionist scoffed and acted as if I was being ridiculous. My coworkers accompanied me and it was several blocks on an unlit street with a construction site stretching the entire distance opposite the road. I had continual issues entering through the gate and both the building and room entrances. The interior doors of the room stuck and I had to slam the closet to get it to close. The toilet paper roll kept slipping off because the replacement mechanism was super loose and honestly an odd design. I think my keys were only activated for a night, so after walking down on day 2, I had to call the front desk to have someone bike down from valet to give me replacement keys. Those issues persisted until I was moved. (all Palmero house) ^ I called the next day and was offered another room given I had a 5 night stay, for work. The options presented to me were a handicap accessible ocean view and a standard king mountain view, so I chose the former, not thinking to ask many more questions. BIG MISTAKE. I believed it would be in the main building, but it turned out to be the only room exterior of a keyed hall entrance in the building across the parking lot. The door to this room was right next to said hall entrance, to the gym and to an ice machine, all in a stone hallway.. I'd be surprised if anyone actually ever stays in that room for more than a few hours, let alone a night. The noise was unbearable from the dropping of ice, slamming of doors, stomping of feet and echoing of voices. I called the front desk for earplugs around 10pm. Given I had already switched rooms once, I wasn't eager to pack up and do it all over again, so I declined changing rooms at that time. The earplugs did not come. With the help of white noise I did fall asleep, but was jolted awake around 3am to the slam of yet another door and I thought certainly that the earplugs would have been left outside for me given this was hours later.. WRONG. I called yet again and finally got a pair, but by that point I was too upset and awake to go back to sleep. I called the next day and was finally put in a room in the main building. I made sure to ask ALL of the questions this time and was assured the room I was placed in would be quiet. (Not sure how a hotel functions without quiet rooms given people are mostly there to.. sleep?? But, alas.) When I walk in, the AC is rattling intensely and it's right next to the bed. So, back down to the front desk I go and they called maintenance. By the time I went back to my room it had been resolved. Other than the sink drain not working and having standing water throughout my stay, that room was fine. All in all, be particular with your room requirements if you stay here and I would not suggest staying anywhere but the main building.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. The beach is right across the street so the views are lovely. The rooms are quite small and our bed was clearly very old and quite uncomfortable. A highlight was the quality of the food in the main restaurant. The breakfasts were quite good! The pool was pretty cold even on hot days and the hot tub was disgusting. There was green foamy algae floating in it. Also, even though the staff was generally quite friendly, they were very understaffed making check-in arduous and also making dining experiences much longer than needed.
The hotel is at an excellent location, right across the beach and has an amazing view. It's an old hotel but it's nicely done and very charming. The staff were friendly and helpful. The onsite parking is valet only and $48 a night.
The location is fantastic. Beautiful views!
Very understaffed. Everyone was friendly but the lack of staff meant long lines and slow service. Also the beds were surprisingly uncomfortable and the room was not organized well. Very little storage.
Well below expectations. Poor check in. Lack of child bed. No guidance on parking. Unclear access to restaurant. Small bedro
Old hotel, out of order elevators not handicapped friendly. Worst view possible looking out at fake shrub. $650 for inconvenience, and a long complicated check-ion. .
Nice Spanish-style hotel close to the beach. Spacious rooms, unfortunately, with old carpets. There was an odour in the room, perhaps from the carpets. No balcony in our room. Comfortable beds and pillows, but lots of noise (family with kids, cars, etc.). The bathroom was clean, but very little space to hang towels. Small bathtub. No written instructions to understand how to use the two showers and the bathtub.
Beautiful location, nice facilities, although the rooms are a bit on the older side. Staff service is welcoming. Thank you to Gavin, the front office manager, for the superb service and the overall effort to make my family's stay as comfortable as possible. My go to stay when visiting Santa Barbara.
