Mar Monte Hotel Santa Barbara. High price, average experience. The in room coffee maker didn't forcing us to purchase the weak, expensive coffee in their restaurant. Only 1 chair in the room so we weren't able to have a meal in the room. Expected balcony and didn't have one
What stood out the most was the exceptional service, especially from Danielle at the front desk. We arrived tired after a long drive, and she immediately made everything better. She was warm, professional, and genuinely kind, making check-in effortless and stress-free. Danielle took the time to answer our questions, offered helpful suggestions, and made us feel truly welcome. Her positive attitude and care completely changed the tone of our arrival and set us up for a great stay. She is a true asset to the hotel and made our experience much better than expected.
To All CEO & All Upper Higher Managements: keeping the very dissatisfied story short as possible. Being a well known, luxury, expensive, pricey hotel chain if your rooms are not properly fully equipped and running properly; then please never ever again rent out those rooms to any guests. Being an American all my life for almost 60 years, my family have never encountered this issue ever before. Europe and Asian Countries give out way better hospitality services then Hyatt does. Greatly unbelievable, unfortunate, and very disappointed for our American US Citizens!
Breakfast was ok but expensive.
There was nothing complimentary in the room. Two waters would be nice. The towels were small and the room smell is stale. The chairs at breakfast ( yellow) were old, worn and stained. The facilities need updating .
I have stayed at Mar Monte Hotel many times since 2006. While it’s changed companies. The hotel staff and owners were wise to update everything. This is especially important to me because it is such a great location and within my budget. Thank you!
No complaints. A little short-staffed, but that is a COVID issue I see everywhere. The staff was incredible though.
Great location. Staff were friendly. Let our dog join us.
We are in the cafe and the system was not working properly, service was slow and I didn’t get the coffee I ordered. I also prefer fresh eggs versus box eggs.
location, helpful staff including valet service

UNSAFE and UNBEARABLE. Do not stay here. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. First, the noise is extreme—the walls are paper-thin, and it is impossible to sleep, given that the hotel is right next to the highway. Also, the facility and room were old and not well-maintained.
Second, and worse: THEFT. I left valuable artistic pottery in the room. Management claimed "no one else stayed in the room" after me, yet the item vanished. This implies staff entered and took it. They refuse to help, and I have filed a police report. Zero security, zero peace, and zero accountability. Avoid at all costs.
Upon arrival, I was assigned a room on the third floor with no balcony and no working elevator, which was very inconvenient. As a result, I was required to move rooms to an entirely different building, causing further disruption and inconvenience.
Additionally, the heater unit in the room was extremely loud and ran throughout the night, making it very difficult to sleep. This significantly affected the quality of my stay and overall comfort.
I am disappointed with this experience, as it did not meet the expectations set at the time of booking. I hope you will review this matter and consider appropriate compensation or resolution.
Rooms are spacious and well decorated. Comfortable beds, clean, and beautiful ocean view. We loved the room service dinner and drinks we got from the restaurant and they accommodated our needs even though we had a late check in. The staff were very friendly.
Building number 3 (Santa Maria) clearly had some water intrusion issues because there were loud fans on the bottom floor and it smelled damp and musty
Location and staff. Great value for money
It could have been cleaner at the start
Would not recommend to travel with a baby to this location. Rooms are small, floor was damp when we arrived. The room was also noisy with street noise and a weird humming/buzzing noise every hour even throughout the night that would last about 10-20 minutes. With a pack and play on the floor, it caused a disaster when trying to sleep with the baby. Even with the loud white noise machine it wasn't enough to block the noise. We could feel the buzzing and loud humming noise even on the bed. There's also just one very hard chair to sit with baby in the room.
The location is lovely, can’t beat the view! The property is beautiful, but in need of a total refresh. The hall carpets throughout are stale and musty smelling, which is not inviting. The shower puddled while showering, which is always creepy to me. The shower head was wayyyyy past the time of replacement. The room had a fridge that was only large enough for water bottles, no leftovers could be stored for later and no microwave. The afternoon lemonade and lemon cookies were wonderful but the morning coffee is pretty bad.
For the price, it should be CLEANER and offer at least breakfast and a microwave.
The hotel location was great. Near the beach and zoo. The room itself was average. Could really use a facelift. It had a damp, old smell to it. I believe I heard the hotel is about 90 years old. The AC was really noisy and made random rattling noises. The bath tub drain was not working properly. Also the walls are super thin. They put us near dog owners and the dog was barking non-stop till at least 12:30am. I tried to call front desk but it just rang out. It was NYE so probably had skeleton staff. Staff at check in and check out was very friendly. The lemon cookies on our first day was delicious but sadly we didn’t see any more after that! The staff at Lito was very nice and friendly. Food was a little slow. It was great to have the free self park option because valet was crazy expensive.
This is my go to hotel in Santa Barbara. Can't beat the location, right across the beach! Friendly and helpful staff. We had breakfast for two days, my husband and I ordered the same thing twice, coz it was really good.
The balcony overlooking the beach was an icing on the cake!
Highly recommended!
