The hotel is in a great, central location. The rooms are clean and spacious.
We spent one night at Rydges South Bank Brisbane and thus us our appraisal of this hotel:-
Positives:-
(1) It is situated in a wonderful location so close to Southbank restaurants and public transport as well as QPAC and the Convention Centre.
(2) The King Suite was reasonably spacious - not as spacious as the equivalent Pullman hotels but more than adequate nonetheless.
(3) Despite being right next to a train line, it was incredibly quiet.
(4) The walk-in shower was a definite plus as was the full sized bath for those who would like this.
(5) The buffet breakfast was extensive - not up to the standard of Novotel and Pullman hotels where we have stayed but very good nonetheless.
(6) Parking was relatively straight-forward although we did have to get our things out quickly upon arrival. The return of our vehicle was swift and easy to arrange.
(7) Check-out was very easy and done online and by dropping the keys into a box.
Negatives:-
(1) The parking was a little annoying as we were unable to return to our car to collect anything we may have left in there. Valet parking is the only option so it was quite expensive at $59. The staff, however, were courteous in this area.
(2) The check-in was reasonably smooth but we were not impressed with the employee telling us that breakfast had not been paid for when it was part of a package. I had the paperwork as a hard copy and pn my phone as well to prove this but it turned out to be unnecessary as he corrected himself immediately after I corrected him. Was he trying to get us to pay twice for breakfast?? Not sure.
(3) We were VERY disappointed to have paid for a King Suite and ended up on Floor 2 - albeit on a corner. We were expecting a higher floor with a view of the Brisbane River and skyline. Instead, we received a view of a convenience store on Grey Street, the building across the road from Glenelg Street and the train line and bus route. Considering the very expensive cost of this room - almost $400 without parking, this was really disappointing.
(4) The room appeared to be spotless but before eating anything nor turning on a tap, we observed ants which was not pleasant.
(5) We had no milk in our room for tea or coffee.
(6) The bedroom became very hot in the night at 21 degrees and was still quite warm at 19.5 degrees. There only seemed to be one control for regulating the temperature.
(7) Having two televisions - one in each room - was great but there were very few pay TV channels (e.g. Foxtel) available. Novotel is much better in providing a more extensive choice regarding TV stations.
(8) We felt that the staff could have been more friendly particularly in the restaurant. We were greeted by one gentleman who was great but the two ladies working in our area - one had been on the service desk of the restaurant serving someone else when we arrived - were VERY sour. Some other staff were OK but could learn a lesson or two in PR from similar staff in other hotels of a similar rating and cost.
(9) Disappointing that breakfast finished at 10am on a Saturday when some like to have a leisurely start to the day on a weekend.
We had a wonderful stay in Rydges Hotel. It is so central to everything in Brisbane. A lovely place to stay. The room was spotless. The hotel itself was beautiful and the staff were so friendly.
This is my second time staying here. Stayed prior to cruise departure and stayed again when cruise returned prior to flying home. In good location and quiet property too. Also very clean with wonderful staff and amenities including a good gym to use. All staff throughout are lovely and everyone from concierge through to housekeeping and reception greeted me when seen walking through property. Beds are also very comfy and love the bathrooms with a nice walk in shower
Thankyou.
We always stay at Rydges south bank as it close to all the amazing restaurant, shops and all the venues whenever we attend concerts and musical event. We always have a comfortable stay at Rydges and staff are helpful and accomodating.
My first choice for Brisbane accommodation, ideal when seeing a performance at QPAC or the Brisbane Convention Centre. Just cross the road and you are in Southbank, easy access to State Library, Museum, Art Gallery and GOMA. Many great restaurants within easy walking distance.
Was very pleased to see that the air conditioning has been upgraded since my last stay in 2025 - Air con worked very well.
Quiet room, comfortable bed and pillows.
Amazing room with balcony overlooking the Brisbane River. Easy walk to South Bank, City Cat, bus and train station. One bus stop from West End and great restaurants. Staff service was awesome. Check in was a
nice experience as staff was so friendly. Check out by web and very streamlined. Thanks Rydges.
We stayed on 14 and 15 February 2026 in room 802. We left the "please refresh room" sign on the door when we left in the morning. Returning mid afternoon - the room had not been "refreshed". Coffee cups still sitting, no fresh milk, bed unmade, wet towels in the bathroom . We left the sign out again when we left for the show in the evening. Again we returned and the room had not been refreshed. We brought this to the Reception attention in the morning at checkout - she said " you could have phoned down and asked" and then the best bit.... I'll need to check with Housekeeping if that you say is true..... First, we should not have to phone down and ask - we were in our room by then and did not want housekeeping when we were in the room and second.... well - really, we paid $1000 for 2 nights - you think we would bother lying about the poor service? Offensive to say the least. Would not stay here again. Plenty of other choices.
First class facilities
Great food & wine offerings
Breakfast buffet is superior and great value
Gym is modern as well ..
Fantastic experience. All the staff were amazing, the facilities and room were of a high calibre.
We had a fantastic stay at Rydges South Bank Brisbane. The service was outstanding - warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly from the moment we arrived (Thanks, Sean).
We actually arrived a few hours before check-in and were lucky enough to be offered an early check-in, which was such a rare and appreciated touch after travelling, as we were able to drop our bags, get refreshed and hit the streets to explore the area.
The hotel itself was spotless and very well maintained, with great amenities. But the real standout is the location. You’re within walking distance of so many amazing places to eat, see and do. Being so close to Streets Beach was a huge win, the kids absolutely loved it. And when we needed a break, it was only a short walk back to the hotel, which honestly saved us a lot of money on transport and extras.
Would absolutely stay here again.
Reception staff were wonderful. Room was great and clean.
Great Location for what I needed.Staff were excellent.Room was clean and comfortable.Great breakfast on offer. Had a great meal in the bar area too.
This is the second time that I have stayed at this ridges in the last six months. My first experience was wonderful, the room was on a high floor with no balcony and was very fresh and comfortable. This experience has been completely the opposite. I’ve come with my baby to attend a medical appointment - I’m an extremely tired and stressed mum who is looking forward to a restful night
I checked three different times that I cot would be set up in the room. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the room when I got there and there was a delay.
I was on the lowest available floor with a very small and dirty balcony. It was very noisy. The room felt very cramped and tired, with a low ceiling in the bathroom. there was dust around the vents and rippled paint. The bad was very saggy and felt old. I think the whole room just felt tired and very different than the room I had previously stated
I think the most repulsive thing was the discovery of a very suggestive stain on the single chair in the room. I felt repulsed and like the room was very unclean. Housekeeping were there setting up the cotton at the time and took photos of this things, and I asked to be put in a different room - they were obliging but I’d say I was slightly downgraded from my troubles. I feel like my money would’ve been better spent at many of the other choices around.
Visited Rydges Southbank for a weekend away and granddaughter's 21st birthday. We were very well looked after and Rydges spoiled our granddaughter. Very happy and very relaxing. Eduardo was amazing arranging everything.
Rydges Hotel South Bank Brisbane. And thank you very much to Declan Briggs, the Guests Relations Manager, for his welcome gift for me. We stayed for two consecutive years because we wanted to see the fireworks on New Years Eve again. In room 1020, where we stayed, you can see the entire fireworks display and countdown fromtheStar Casino. The room was very nice and clean and the staff there had good customer service. Yes, 100% RECOMMENDED. And we will definitely come back to stay at this hotel. 😊😊😊. Thanks again.
I always stay at Rydges South Bank and absolutely love this hotel. Declan, the Guest Relations Manager, goes above and beyond for every guest, especially those who return. The whole team is incredibly welcoming. My room was spotless and very comfortable, and the location is perfect. I’ll share a photo of my beautiful room as well.
Happy New Year to the wonderful Rydges South Bank team!
Don't bother going here if you have any type of schedule to stick too.
Service is non existent, valet parking situation is, they take your car, you ask for your car hours in advance at a particular time, they bring the car around the better part of an hour late without a single excuse or apology.
They won't care less if you're out 1000s of dollars because of their mistakes at all.
The wonderful experience of Rydges South Bank began even before we arrived! The communication and service from staff - particularly from Xin Jin the Executive Assistant Manager - was unparalleled. The location is perfect to access Southbank but also an easy walk into the city. We took this trip as a staycation and it was a perfect midweek break with our kids before the craziness of Christmas. The room was quite spacious for a family of 4 (including a tall 13 and 8 year old!). We loved having a balcony and enjoyed our view across the river to the city, but also appreciated how quiet it was once the doors were closed. We all loved cooling off in the pool and definitely appreciated it being outdoors instead of indoors like some hotels. We had a breakfast buffet included and it was one of the best we've had - the food was so yummy, really fresh and had an excellent variety. Can't recommend it highly enough, thank you!
Valet parking manager needs an attitude check. Extremely unhelpful and rude staff member. Valet parking is apparently compulsory even if not requested at the time of booking. $51 for the privilege of parking your car and limited access to the vehicle. No where to park your vehicle at check-in to unload your belongings, basically your given a minute to remove your things from your vehicle before your hurried up and your vehicle is quickly driven away. Rooms were ok but extremely noisy. Did not come across one friendly staff member. As a local will never stay here again will stay at the Mantra next time
