A 3 might seem tough. I’d rather the option of an 3.5, but…Anyone who has status with Bonvoy will know what I’m talking about, and as someone who’s done over 1800 nights, I give this a meh. I’m only lifetime Platinum but towards the end of my career I was always Titanium. These days, I only do 50-60 nights a year.
My complaints may seem minor, but they’re emblematic of Bonvoy/Marriott/Sheraton today vs how Marriott was a decade or fifteen years ago. Corporate is weak.
First and foremost…the place is clean. If you’re gonna pay $300+ a night for a clean room or flashy lobby and that’s all you care about, this is your place. But there are better options no doubt.
My quibbles: 1. Before I went into the lobby, I looked to see what rooms were available because I, of course, did not get an upgrade notification from Bonvoy. You know…the kind you get ALL THE TIME if you’re Diamond with Hilton. I saw many rooms I could be upgraded to and asked for an upgrade at check-in. I was told, “I don’t know how the algorithms works for upgrades.” That was a new one. Even when I said upgrades were available, he said, “That has to happen before I get to work.” So call ahead or email the manager.
2. We get to the room and my wife and I have exactly two towels and one washcloth. I called down and they brought us a couple more towels and washcloths within 15-20 minutes.
3. The TV. The person that stayed before us thought it would be funny to change the input, so that was fun to figure out. Then, once I found the right input, the guide doesn’t tell you what’s on the channels. Just says, “No description available.” Minor quibble cuz we only spent a couple hours in the room, but c’mon man!
4. Last night, we went to the pool around 7:30 and there wasn’t a towel to be found. There were 15-20 people in the pool and only one guy had a towel. A woman there told my wife that towels were coming. Fifteen minutes later, my wife went to the desk and asked for a couple pool towels. They said they’d get some right out. ONE HOUR after that, my wife went back to the desk to ask if the towels were coming, and they told her, “Oh, they must be washing them.” After a few minutes, they provided us some room towels.
There’s one plus. The Concierge Lounge breakfast was good and the Woman working there was on top of everything. A table wasn’t empty one minute before it was cleaned, and a used plate was gone from your table before you could bring it up to the big tray where one normally would.
So, my quibbles may be minor, and I could’ve complained, but with current management at Marriott, a complaint is just a nuisance to be dismissed rather than an opportunity to improve.
Maybe I’m getting too old, but I remember a better Marriott.
I had an amazing week staying at the Charleston Marriott! I especially loved the caring employees, spacious and very clean room with a balcony, gym (including a stairmaster), and new rooftop bar, where there was a nice breeze and beautiful view of the sunset. I also liked the location, which was peaceful and quiet - and great for walks around the Citadel and Hampton Park. I will definitely come back and stay here in the future!
I had a wonderful experience at the Charleston Marriott. The view from the top floor balcony rooms is incredible. The concierge lounge was accommodating and had a nice selection. The rooftop bar, located on the 3rd floor, was beautiful! It has views looking over the River, which makes for a nice dinner and drink at sunset. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks to all the professional staff for making my stay great!
I came for a conference. My room was clean and spacious. The bathroom shower was a little dated, not old. Just not as modern as most other places these days. The one issue was a lot of steam when I washed and the vent in there didn’t do a great job helping with that. The bathroom Staff was friendly from valet to front staff. Sapphire restaurant was convenient, but in the city of Charleston there are so many other great options to try. Overall, I enjoyed the stay. No big issues. Didn’t think to get pics, unfortunately.
I love this hotel! The staff are so helpful - whether this is just lovely Southern hospitality - or just excellent hospitality training I don't know - but they have it down! I have felt welcomed and helped from the moment I stepped in the door. Chris at front desk was fantastic - helping me with packages, smiling, helping me with postage out, suggesting luggage trolleys, just a great way to be greeted after a long day of traveling, and it has continued to be brilliant, with great conference food, many smiling faces and everyone going out of their way to help you. Thank you.
It’s a great spot concierge room is awesome big variety, great offering and nice ladies working it. Fitness room has all you need and faces a nice pool. You can see the Ashley River - walk it in the morning or eve - take an outing hotel and walk to the Charleston River Dogs and catch a game. That’s a fun spot. The Citadel campus right there too.
A classic, somewhat tired Marriott property, though the very friendly staff still made the stay a pleasant one. We were told renovations are planned, and it’s certainly needed — the property is starting to show its age. That said, everything was clean despite being worn around the edges.
A solid option for an overnight stop, especially thanks to the warm welcome from the team.
The Charleston Marriott was a bit dissapointing. We stayed June 18th through the 21st 2026. The room was good enough although they only left the bare minimum for towels even after a good tip was left for the housekeeper. The rooftop bar was closed even though this was peak travel time and no concierge was available. The Penthouse Lounge is only supposed to be available to the qualified member and one guest but was not monitored and families of 5 and more were crowding the Lounge. The most dissapointing part was that Smoking was allowed all through the outdoor areas and pool and the patio was not clean and had lots of cigarette butts on the ground.
Location, bar, food
Came for the Charleston half marathon. Was attended by Kris at the front desk. Had an incredible experience. Go with Kris!
Kris or Chris (beard front desk) was absolutely wonderful and I cannot give him enough kudos. When we checked in he was kind, courteous and helpful in every way. It is so nice to be greeted and assisted by someone so friendly & cheerful. 4pm in the afternoon.
Unfortunately we had "neighbors" next door that it took 2 phone calls to front desk at 10:15pm, 10:45pm, and walk down to the front desk at 11:30pm (and this was a very kind woman) to get them to FINALLY shut down their party & music. When you pay over $400 a night for a room you have a high level of expectations from the hotel to do their part to help quiet down the party. I asked on the first phone call what time do you expect things to be "quiet?" The gentleman said "10pm - 7am are quiet hours." I felt like I had people in my room...that my bed was in the middle of the party...that is how loud they were. NOT ACCEPTABLE
This is typical Marriott experience. Neither outstanding nor bad. Being Titanium Bonvoy Member, it is easy to see the really big differentiators, whether really great or very bad. Here it is sold 3-3.5 out of 5. The location is not bad, but not ideal. It is pleasant water facing property, but 2 miles from historic center. Need car to drive or grab Lyft/Uber. The service was friendly and generally fine. The complimentary breakfast in the Lounge was "mew", nothing good. The hotel building and common areas are nothing special, dated too. The rooms are ok, not particularly large and old, but clean and adequately appointed. Bathrooms are on a smaller and older side. The rate was moderate. Another typical US city Marriott, nothing mode to add here.
Friendly and easy check in, used valet parking. Entire facility undergoing renovations. Room was adequate however small, nice useable porch off the room. Nice M Club for light hors d'oeuvres in the evening and good breakfast in the morning, great staff here. The on-site restaurant is really good in the lobby bar is fun. If you need a specialty coffee they got you covered. Nice outdoor setting areas and pool.
Clean-coffee on site
The staff was not very informative. Didn’t tell what side the room was on So we would know closest place to Park. No instruction to use the card key on the elevator. didn’t give me a total for the charge on the room till checkout.
My brother and I are visiting from out of state and we were looking for a good Roof-Top bar to get to. Jace immediately was welcoming and helped us figure everything out and got us to the bar. Hard to complain about that
