Beautiful, historic hotel
Nothing
I recently stayed at the Francis Marion Hotel while attending a professional conference, and the experience exceeded expectations in every way. My room was exceptionally comfortable, beautifully appointed, and remarkably well maintained for a historic property.
The hotel itself is elegant, welcoming, and perfectly suited for conferences and events. What truly stood out, however, was the quality of the food and beverage service. From breakfast and lunch to the evening receptions, every meal was excellent, with outstanding variety, quality, and presentation. It was easily the best conference catering I have experienced.
The conference technology and support were equally impressive. Large screens, microphones, and audiovisual systems worked flawlessly throughout the event—something that is far rarer than it should be. Every member of the hotel staff contributed to a seamless experience, demonstrating professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality.
The Francis Marion delivered a truly first-class experience, and I would gladly stay here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful hotel, top notch exprience! We used room service for breakfast, and it came on time and was delicious. We also used the garage and had no problem getting our car when needed.
I attempted to make an April reservation on line, not my first time with the hotel. I could not get a confirmation email or text. I assumed the hotel was booked so I found a reservation at another hotel.
Today my AMEX bill shows a $361.90 billing for ASSURED RESERVATION-NO SHOW. No confirmation ever received.
I called the hotel and was given a contact number. The number is answered by AI and after multiple attempts I could not get past the AI connection. So no way to resolve this disputed charge. I’ll go to AMEX and start a protest.
Several good times in Charleston at this hotel but, like other offended travelers, never Francis Marion again. Don’t like being taken advantage of or computer rather than human connections. Sorry customer service.
Older hotel but very clean. Directly across from a trolley stop. About a mile from the market place. Easy walking. Shops in the area are on the higher end.
Waterfront just past the market. Great restaurants on the water. Beautiful area. Wonderful trip
The Francis Marion is reasonably priced, comfortable and clean, and perfectly located for the Spoleto Festival. We now consider ourselves regulars and look forward to our next visit.
Room was marvelous, location the best
Bathroom extra small
The location, king street, you can walk everywhere
The bathroom was very small for a four star hotel
We asked to be close to each other and were put on opposite sides for the hotel!! I think we were the only ones on the 12th floor, so don't see why we couldn't have been closer
Location was ok.
Bathroom too small. Our stay at other hotels at a cheaper price have had a bigger and better room. Valet service should be included in the room price. Breakfast was very basic for the price. The hotel is very nice but the price you pay for a one night stay is too high. If you were using all the facilities it would be classed as reasonable.
Wonderful stay, in town for a wedding. Rehearsal dinner was at the hotel. Staff was very friendly and always accommodating. Room was comfortable and location is great. Restaurant served very good breakfast with great service and at very reasonable prices.
The staff of the hotel were amazing.
The concierge, Karin, was so helpful in her recommendations. All of our needs were met.
Hosted our Wedding Welcome Dinner for 100 in the beautiful Gold Ballroom. The level of professionalism and service far exceeded my expectations. Every member of the staff demonstrated an exceptional commitment to excellence, consistently anticipating needs and proactively offering assistance thoughtfully and genuinely. Communication was prompt, clear, and incredibly responsive throughout the entire experience.
Most impressive was the flawless execution—the setting was absolutely stunning, and every detail came together beautifully. The timing and flow of both food and beverages were perfectly orchestrated, creating an effortless and enjoyable experience for all. Truly outstanding in every regard.
This hotel is so classy, the employees are top notch, kind, always smiling and always ready to help. Our room was amazing, it even had two bathrooms which was a huge welcome surprise! Glorious views from our hotel windows and the swamp fox restaurant weekend buffet was delicious and very reasonable compared to other local eateries.
Beds were very firm but not uncomfortable, they had lovely turn down service and brought you chocolates in the evening and everything about the hotel felt warm and inviting!!! We will book again for sure!
Great hotel in the timeless, classic tradition of a bygone era, but still relevant, beautiful and fully functioning. They don't build hotels like this any more - one in the great tradition of the Ambassador in Los Angeles or the Astor in New York. Where else do you get stationary, envelopes and postcards in your room any more? You do at The Marion. Stay there. We loved it and will return. And the restaurant downstairs had a delicious breakfast - the perfect way to start the day.
