Amazing, comfortable beds and bedding - always a great night's sleep at the Sofitel. The room was well maintained and the hotel's atrium bar has excellent food and drinks with great service. Location is second to none at the top of Collins Street, everything is walking distance!
The rooms could do with better soundproofing - the noise from the bar at night travels through the hotel as all rooms face the central atrium. You could also hear others in neighbouring rooms engage in their various extracurricular activities...
It took 2 hours to get my bags delivered to my room. Rang numerous times as was going out but needed my suitcase
The location and staff. The breakfast was excellent
The rooms are very dated and in need of upgrade to bring into this century - far too “executive “ and masculine.
The location is by far the best thing about this hotel, right outside is a tram stop so the city is easily accessible. We have stayed here a few times for easy access the Melbourne Convention Centre. The scent in the hotel is lovely, city views are great, rooms are well maintained.
The rooms are very warm, even in winter the air conditioning needs to be on at night. Not a great fitness centre, just a small gym, none of the other luxuries such as pool, spa, sauna, steam room.
The location and the staff were fabuloouse
Bed was a little bit uncomfortable, I would have thought it would have been a big luxe mattress but the mattress was a bit hard.
Location and view from room
There was no shower. We had shower in the bath tub by standing. and it was slippery
I was disappointed with this Sofitel for a number of reasons. No greeting on arrival for the concierge to take cases. Having to follow up for cases to be taken to the room. Follow up as cases did not quickly arrive in the room. The room itself was above average, but if this had been a standard 4 star hotel, which it’s not billed to be. At breakfast there was no one to take my mother and I to a table and 3 times in a row they could not bring the coffee my mother had kindly requested. Having been sick for 3 days after breakfast on the Sunday (another guest had also been sick too after the breakfast that day), I was told Health & Safety would be in touch. It is now over a week since I checked out and nobody has been in touch as I was advised they would be by a Manager who came over when I was relaying my sickness to reception. I will never return to this hotel and would also advise anyone else not to bother and to stay in the Ritz as I did on my last night in Melbourne. If comparing this Sofitel and the level of service to the last Sofitel I stayed in (Amsterdam) then this really was suboptimal.
