For the past 15 years, I have stayed at the Hilton Memphis each April for a quarterly business meeting and related entertainment events. Since 2025, I have noticed improvements in overall quality, especially in security and customer service visibility.
The hotel deserves credit for the increased security presence. After the multiple vehicle theft issues in 2024, security is now much more visible throughout the parking areas and around the property. During this visit, there was a combination of hotel security, private security, Memphis Police Department presence, and National Guard personnel visible around the area. Having been directly affected myself in the past, I found the additional patrols and visibility noticeable and appreciated.
The property still felt dated. While the rooms were functional and reasonably clean, they don’t reflect what travelers expect from a major Hilton property. Common areas, room finishes, and overall presentation could use modernization.
The hotel also appears barely ADA-compliant. For a large convention-style hotel, accessibility and ease of movement should be much better than what currently exists, i.e., the removal of the escalators from the main floor to the lower levels.
Service was mixed depending on where you were in the hotel, but several employees stood out in a positive way. Front desk clerks Shelita and Trinice both provided strong customer service during my stay. They were professional, courteous, and helpful throughout the visit. Also, I want to recognize housekeeping attendant Honolate, who went above and beyond during my stay. Small things still matter in hospitality, and that level of effort deserves recognition.
One of the more disappointing aspects is the lack of premium amenities expected from a hotel this size. There are really no meaningful perks for Diamond members in the premium access lounge. Before COVID, the hotel had an executive lounge on the top floor, which added value for frequent Hilton travelers. Its absence is definitely noticeable, making the hotel feel far more basic than it once did.
The limited dining options and minimal Diamond recognition further contribute to the feeling that this property doesn’t reflect the Hilton brand experience many longtime guests remember. I still believe hotel management lacks transparency and follow-through when issues arise. I say this from personal experience. Communication and consistent follow-up with guests would go a long way toward rebuilding confidence for longtime customers who have supported this property for years.
Bottom Line:
The Hilton Memphis has improved in some operational areas, particularly security, and employees are working hard to enhance the guest experience. However, the property still has significant shortcomings in modernization, amenities, accessibility, and overall consistency. Convenient for large events and meetings, so so for the upscale traveler. Recommendation, but proceed with tempered expectations.
Hotel as a whole. Especially the staff.
Toilet wasnt flushing properly.
Location close to the hospital for visiting
Very unclean, outdated rooms
The staff at the Hilton Memphis was, by far, the friendliest, nicest and most accommodating staff at a hotel we have ever stayed at. A few that specifically stand out were Trinice, Shelita and Miss Pat. Trinice and Shelita checked us in and gave restaurant recommendations and directions. Eating breakfast with Miss Pat was truly a warming welcome to the morning. It is wonderful to come to a hotel where the staff enjoyed being at work. Hilton Memphis, you’re doing it right!
Staff were fantastic- friendly, helpful, approachable, especially in the restaurant. Meeting spaces were good although overall the lobby and meeting spaces were heavily scented - enough to give those sensitive to smells a headache. The rooms were comfortable and amenities were good, but the overall cleanliness could use some improvements. My room had a pill laying in the middle of the floor from the last guest so clearly not well cleaned! Dressers drawers wouldn’t all open and had to get maintenance in the close the curtains as they were off track (although the showed up right away).
The view was wonderful. The rooms were very clean.
The fees and parking charge! Never had to pay to park at a hotel. I’d have stayed longer if they didn’t charge $50 to $60 fees that aren’t necessary. It would have been per night. Instead of a one time fee. Get cash because they don’t tell you the buffet has servers and tips aren’t included in prepaid breakfast.
The room space and staff
Nothing
I got food poisoning from the pizza
We had to travel to Memphis due to a family emergency which was stressful enough but then had to extend our stay by a day. Trinice at the front desk was extremely helpful in ensuring that we were able to stay in our hotel room and not have to move.
Front desk staff was very friendly, bed was comfortable, good location
The air didn’t work and they never came fixed it
First time staying at a Hilton, stayed at the Memphis East Hilton. Shelita made me feel very welcome and helped me setup a Hilton Honors account. Because of her service, I look forward to my future stays at this hotel.
Winter at the front desk was very welcoming and friendly. The location was convenient for what we needed, very beautiful hotel! Room was clean, smelled a little old but still nice and clean, staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to pointing us in the right direction for food and advice for being new to the area.
