Wonderful stay, great people!
Pros:

We elected to stay at the Hyatt Regency (Embarcadero) on our first visit to San Francisco back in March due to its location and accessibility (it’s right next to a BART station, easy to get to many attractions via public transportation, close to the Ferry Building, etc.), but we chose to come back this summer because of the friendly, attentive, and wonderful staff. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay a great experience. Curtis was able to accommodate our room request, including linking several reservations together, and made the whole process seamless. Alan and Aiz recognized us from our previous stay and added our son’s name to the reservation in case he arrived before we did, and Averie was happy to share suggestions for interesting places to visit in the city.

To say the Regency Club staff are incredibly warm, welcoming, and professional is an understatement. Their kindness and thoughtfulness really took the edge off during a very busy time as we helped to get our son situated in a new city before starting school. We really enjoyed catching up with Thu, José, and Evelyn, who we got to know during our previous stay and already feel like family! Along with Chris, Norma, and Berenece, they managed to keep everything running smoothly at the Club—even when busy on the weekend—while taking a genuine interest in our lives. All of the staff there are exceptional. The Club itself has a really nice selection of food (breakfast, snacks, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts) and great panoramic views of the bay and the city.

We also loved our room, which was clean, very spacious, and had a beautiful view of the Bay. The hotel also has an enormous lobby with comfortable seating that came in handy when we needed to re-group pre- and post-airport. We appreciated being able to have our luggage stored behind the front desk so that we could explore the city and grab our things later for a red-eye flight. Housekeeping was also top-notch. Joanne in particular was great in fulfilling several of our requests and was able to accommodate our schedule and make up our room while we were out. We can’t say enough about the exceptional service and wonderful people at the Regency! They made us feel like this hotel will be our home away from home when visiting our son in San Francisco.

Pros:

Beautiful honeymoon night.
Pros:

We stayed there the night we got married and everyone was super sweet to us. We were given drink and appetizer coupons for being newlyweds. Thank you! The Regency club was a great place to have breakfast. We loved it.

Great Family Stay
Pros:

The Hyatt Regency is a perfect place for families to stay in San Francisco. The location is amazing, right across the street from the Ferry Terminal and next to a cable car stop. The hotel seemed recently renovated. Everything was clean and in good condition. The Regency Club was sufficient to feed us during our entire stay for three meals a day. The rotating club and the view are incredible.

Pros:

Hyatt Regency San Francisco is always my preferred place to stay whenever I visit the city. The location is fantastic—convenient, beautiful, and perfect for enjoying everything San Francisco has to offer.

What truly makes each stay special is the wonderful staff. Everyone is consistently welcoming, professional, attentive, and genuinely friendly. I always feel well taken care of from the moment I arrive.

It’s this combination of excellent service, a great location, and warm hospitality that keeps me coming back. I always look forward to my next stay. Highly recommended!

An iconic hotel that desperately needs investment
Pros:

I've stayed at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco before. I returned because of the building itself. This is an iconic hotel with its John Portman-designed atrium and unmistakable presence on the Embarcadero. Unfortunately, the hotel has seen better days.

The property desperately needs an extensive renovation and restoration. Everything feels tired. The outside looks a little dumpy. The overall operating standard falls below what I expect from a 4-star Hyatt Regency, especially given the iconic nature of the hotel.

Some of the problems are simply baffling.

The lobby bar isn't open during the day. Even when the hotel is hosting large meetings and events, there's nowhere in the lobby to sit down and order a drink at 3 p.m. For a massive convention-oriented hotel, that makes little sense.

The hotel also sells rooms with club lounge access. However, the Regency Club is closed two days a week. If you're selling lounge access as part of a room rate or package, the lounge should be open. Otherwise, don't sell the amenity.

Communication is another problem. The hotel sends a pre-arrival email asking guests to provide their arrival time, requests and other information. I replied as requested. The hotel never responded. Why solicit pre-arrival information if nobody is going to acknowledge or act upon it?

The physical condition of the property doesn't help. The exterior looks dumpy for such a prominent building in such a prominent location. The guest rooms have been renovated somewhat recently, but the result feels more like a Hyatt Place or Four Points by Sheraton than a 4-star Hyatt Regency.

That's particularly unfortunate because this building deserves better.

At the end of the day, the Hyatt Regency feels like a massive cruise ship on land. Guests are numbers moving through an enormous operation rather than individuals receiving anything resembling personalized hospitality.

There are better options in San Francisco. Based on my stays, I would choose the InterContinental on Howard Street or the Westin St. Francis over the Hyatt Regency.

It's unfortunate that Hyatt or the hotel's owner isn't investing more heavily in this property. The architecture is iconic. The location is excellent. The potential is enormous. But the hotel needs considerably more than another cosmetic refresh. It needs serious investment and a higher operating standard worthy of the building, location and Hyatt Regency name.

Convenient location, but the room condition made the stay disappointing.
Pros:

Location

Cons:

I booked a king bed room with a balcony and a view, and we were initially assigned to the 17th floor. Unfortunately, our stay was not pleasant. The room had an unpleasant smell and looked quite old and dated. Given the type of room I booked and the expectations associated with it, I was disappointed with the overall condition of the room.
Since my mom is afraid of heights, I requested to be transferred to a lower floor, and thankfully, the hotel accommodated our request and moved us to the 5th floor. To my surprise, the room on the 5th floor was noticeably cleaner and in much better condition compared to the room on the 17th floor. It actually looked like it had been recently renovated.
I appreciate the staff for accommodating our request, but I was disappointed that the room initially assigned to us on the 17th floor was in such poor condition compared to the room on the 5th floor.

Great Hotel - Never Disappoints
Pros:

This hotel never disappoints. The location is near the Ferry Building and along the Embarcadaro which is a nice place in the City to walk. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. I live in San Jose and this is my hotel of choice when family and friends visit from out of town and want to stay in San Francisco.

Home beyond Home
Pros:

I love the location of this hotel on Embarcadero , convenient to ferries across street at Ferry Bulding (tons of great eateries), Cable Cars right outside front door, and best Embarcadero Muni/Bart station feet away.
It's a property designed by famous archiect John Portland.
Interior Atrium is beautiful and graphically expansive giving a reinforcement of spatial openness.
Rooms are modern and give an open free feeling especially those wih balcony.
Service is beyond compare- from Bellman greeting to housekeeping.
Management is incredibly responsive to guest concerns "They listen".

So/so
Pros:

Loud hotel due to the atrium. Hotel staff friendly.
Food terribly expensive and mediocre. Plan to dine outside elsewhere if you can. A/c in room did not work and water pressure was low. I had a hard time figuring out hot and cold. Rooms also very small and a far walk from elevators to many of the rooms. Would not recommend this hotel for more than 1 night or if sleep is important to you.
