The location
The front desk staff were not polite and helpful.
A good facilities with easy access to grand central. A good place and location and nice ambiance with nice stay. Price is bit high but good posce
The quality of the service provided could certainly be improved. Specifically, the water supply was interrupted, and despite this issue, I was unable to receive any assistance in obtaining some bottled water to use.
Don’t expect courtesy or any helpfulness. Very transactional service with indifferent persons.
The best part of my stay was the hotel's location, which was very convenient for exploring the city. The replacement room was acceptable, but overall it was just okay and did not make up for the issues we experienced.
The first room we were assigned was in unacceptable condition. It had visible mold in the bathroom, a strong unpleasant odor, and signs of water damage, including peeling and chipping paint on the ceiling. No guest should be assigned a room in that condition.
The staff at the Hyatt Grand Central New York were a great disappointment. There was absolutely no attempt whatsoever to welcome or accommodate their guests. For example, I was unable to get help trying to get a cleanup for a spill right in front of the main elevator in their lobby, a clear hazard to anyone attempting to enter or exit the main elevators. The staff at the restaurant wouldn't take two steps toward me to ask if I would be interested in service, instead waiting until I walked right next to her to acknowledge my presence after I made eye contact with her, clearly seeking service. If you want an experience like this, you should seek out the nearest roach motel.
Always my go to when NYC. An exceptional location to get anywhere in the city (and beyond). A seasoned and super helpful staff. Consistent and by NYC standards very nice and spacious rooms.
I have always had great experiences at Hyatt hotels - clean, modern vibe with up-to-date fixtures and efficient/ nicely designed furnishing, with great customer service of course. This hotel was not what I had previously experienced - the room was definitely worn, and lots of stuff didn't work. The shower curtain bar was installed in the wrong direction, with the curvature facing down (rather than out) so that the curtain slid and bunch at the lowest center part. The sink stopper was broken. The AC malfunctioned 2 days in a row. Staff were very responsive though and came and fixed all of above, along with replacing 2 light bulbs that were out. The bathroom fixtures and furnishings were very basic, not the typical cool mod hyatt vibe. The room furniture was not only worn but also not space efficient for Manhattan. The cabinet drawers had an outer clunky cabinet door that had to be opened in order to access the drawers. The concierge also was unavailable for 3 days - could not find them by phone or in person until the last day at checkout. There is also a $40 daily resort fee, with perks that we didn't really use at all. The food and beverage credit of $15 is not much when a bag of chips is %5.75 and a fruit cup is $12. Overall, the main reason to stay here is the location of being right next door to Grand Central terminal.
Location is incredible! Staff were amazing. It’s an older hotel but very clean. Rooms were huge which I wasn’t expecting in downtown NY. We had an issue with the safe not working on check in and were offered other rooms. There is a water refill station behind the lifts which is brilliant. The outside of the hotel is nothing to look at and unfortunately smells of urine, as certain locations in major cities all do. There’s also a few homeless people milling around the entrance area but thats perhaps because it’s next to the main train station? Given the price you pay to stay there, perhaps it should be hosed down every day to give guests a more pleasant entrance experience. Minor downside to the hotel is that you have a ‘use it or lose it’ $15 every day in the shop which can’t be rolled over from the tourist tax that you have to pay nightly. Which is great but meant that we struggled to find things we wanted to eat/drink and then either under spent or over spent every day on things we didn’t want to buy - which was usually breakfast, a tea and 2 bakery items. Would I stay again? Absolutely!
Perfect location. Facilities are a bit dated but everything is very clean and well-maintained; most of the staff is helpful and friendly. I had asked for a quieter room and was perfectly placed at the end of a corridor. The hotel could also accommodate a request for early check-in. The room was fine, though there are few amenities. Very comfortable bed, good lighting and good space design.
Weak air-conditioning in my room, though it may have been specific to that room as friends told me that it worked very well in their rooms.
Great location, but not the full-service Hyatt experience I expected
The biggest advantage of Hyatt Grand Central is its location. Being connected to Grand Central Terminal makes it extremely convenient for exploring Manhattan and getting to and from the airport. My room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and I appreciated being upgraded to a room with a partial view of the Empire State Building as an Hyatt Explorist.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positives largely ended.
What surprised me most was how stripped-down the room felt for a full-service Hyatt. There were plastic cups instead of glassware(not even plastics), no ice bucket or ice bucket liner, and even basic items like a pen and notepad were missing. Individually these are minor details, but together they made the room feel more like a limited-service hotel than a property carrying the Hyatt name.
I understand that a hotel in such a busy location may have concerns about theft or the cost of replacing room items. However, removing basic amenities from every room doesn’t seem like the right solution. It creates an experience that falls short of what many travelers expect from Hyatt, especially compared with other full-service Hyatt properties.
Another surprise was the charge for storing luggage ($4 per luggage) after checkout. Same-day luggage storage is complimentary at most full-service hotels I’ve stayed at, including many Hyatt properties. After I mentioned the missing ice bucket, the front desk courteously waived the luggage storage fee, and I appreciate that they resolved the issue. The staff I interacted with were professional and helpful. My concern is with the property’s policies rather than the employees.
Overall, the hotel delivers on location, but not on the overall guest experience. If your priority is being next to Grand Central, this hotel is certainly convenient. If you’re choosing Hyatt because you expect the amenities and service typically associated with the brand, you may find this property disappointing. Based on this stay, I would likely choose another hotel on my next visit to New York.
Location
No buffet
Disappointing hotel that falls well below what you would expect from a Hyatt. Am a regular visitor to NY - worst hotel I’ve stayed in during past 20 trips or so (never again).
Note to Hyatt management: this hotel needs some attention.
- Dirty/ grimy/ dark and tired
- Long queues to check in
- Unfriendly staff/ low service levels (v few staff on duty)
- Nothing in room - no water/ coffee/ tea making facilities etc
- WiFi not working
- Charge to leave luggage
Location good - though better options nearby - Westin etc.
Just don’t!
