Great experience at the Intercontinental for a conference with my colleague (1st time in manhattan for him). Staff were friendly, bed were great to sleep. Sophy at reception was the best! She able to accommodate our room request too thankfully!
The minute you arrive, the staff at the Intercontinental Barclay New York make you feel so incredibly welcome. We first stayed here three years ago, and although my husband unfortunately broke his wrist while ice skating, Sofia the General Manager—and the sweet hotel dog!—could not have been more helpful. They truly went above and beyond by assisting us with emergency care and extending our stay, which is exactly why we chose to return.
Our second visit was just as wonderful. Isabelle on reception made the check-in procedure very quick and professional, and we were so happy to be back. We absolutely love the bar and the overall atmosphere of the hotel; it is clear to see that the staff really enjoy their jobs. They always have time for a good chat, and we’d like to give a special mention to Jose and his colleagues for being so great.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, and I have to say, the dressing gowns are honestly the best we have ever had in a hotel! We stayed in a corner room on the 7th floor which was lovely and quiet. Upon arrival, we were touched to find two super tasty cupcakes and a personal note waiting for us to celebrate our anniversary. It was a gesture we very much appreciated and made our stay feel truly special.
We already can’t wait to come back!
Beautiful old hotel with luxury furnishings and updates that preserve the integrity of the building. Antonio at the bar was so friendly, made us feel at home, and made me one of the best martinis I ever had. Housekeeper (12th floor, unfortunately can’t recall her name) was so nice and attentive — respected our quiet time and still made sure we had everything we needed. Front desk, bag check, you name it…everyone is all about providing the guests, as a luxury hotel should be.
Great location, 1mile or less walk to Grand Central, Times Square, all of Midtown, Central Park, etc. Only thing I didn’t like is the mini-fridge setup (stocked with for purchase items and automated system, with barely any space for your own items. No microwave if you’re planning to stay longer and might want that. Minor inconveniences for a wonderful stay .
I have stayed at Intercontinental Barclays with my family a few times and we always have the BEST experience. Everyone is so nice and accommodating. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. The food is great. We love the lobby and decor. It's any easy walk to Rockefeller Center. It's our first choice every time we need to stay the night for it's consistency and cleanliness.
We had 9 excellent nights at the Barclay — very nice and comfortable room and an extremely helpful and friendly staff. We’ll go back again without doubt. Top marks!
We stayed for 1 night prior to boarding a cruise departing Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
The whole experience was exactly what I have come to expect from Intercontinental Hotels around the world; luxurious rooms, smart public areas, excellent F&B and a comfortable Club Lounge.
The hotel is shortly celebrating its Centenary and it is nice to see how the vintage parts of the building have been sympathetically incorporated into more modern refurbishments.
We benefited from an upgraded Premium Room on a higher floor; maybe it was tiredness from the transatlantic flight, but the bed and bedding seemed incredibly comfortable and the linen luxurious!
The location was perfect for us; a very short walk from Central Station and the LIRR link to JFK, and also an easy stroll to 5th Avenue and Central Park. We didn’t have time to explore the rest of the city, but plan to return very soon to see the rest of New York.
The staff in the Club Lounge; Miss Paulette and Miss Blanca were excellent hosts and made us feel welcome and ‘at home’. As always, having access to the Club Lounge was a really useful bonus. The breakfast in the Lounge was part of the package and gave us a taste of America whilst the evening canapés and drinks were complimentary and represent excellent value, especially in an expensive city like New York. Mr Kevin and Mr Orin at Reception made the Check-in and Check-out process seemless and again, were an excellent reflection on the hotel as were all the other staff we came into contact with.
We hope to be back again very soon and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel especially for its friendly staff and great location.
I had a deeply disappointing stay at this hotel. For a property that charges premium prices, the level of service was shockingly poor. The staff I interacted with came across as indifferent at best and openly unpleasant at worst. Staff was unhelpful and dismissive when I raised concerns. None of them seemed interested in resolving issues or providing even basic hospitality.
The rooms are hot and stuffy (due to weak or broken air conditioning) making it very difficult to sleep comfortably.
What made the situation worse was how difficult it was to get anyone to address the problem. I had to repeatedly follow up with the front desk and management just to get attention on the issue.
Between the uncomfortable rooms and the dismissive attitude from staff, the experience felt far below the standard one would expect from a hotel in this price range. Instead of hospitality, the overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming and disorganized.
The location is excellent, and the building itself is very tastefully decorated. My room was also a comfortable and adequate size for NYC.
However, my experience at the lobby restaurant/bar left a negative taste. I was dining solo, which I do often, but the service felt less attentive and more a bit dismissive. The overall vibe wasn’t particularly welcoming.
What really bothered me was how the check was handled. When I asked for it, the waitress simply told me, “I’ve added it to your room,” without ever presenting a bill for me to review or sign. Since I had a welcome drink voucher and some dining credits on my account, I had no idea what the actual total was until I checked out the next day.
It appeared that gratuity had already been added. While I would have tipped regardless, I would have appreciated the chance to review the bill and leave gratuity myself rather than being charged without visibility.
Another excellent stay at the Intercontinental Barclay. Everything was perfect - room, amenities, very friendly and professional staff... really can't ask for better. I'll be back soon.
We had an amazing stay at the Barclay! A very nice room, with great bed lines for a great sleep. All staff was friendly and professional, the breakfast buffet was very tasty. We will stay here again.
10/10 amazing experience from the c-in annmara gayle was professional and give us a wonderful service and a beautiful room the bartender and the guy from the club lounge and the bellman and valet everyone was amazing and give us a wonderful service and experience just wow i will be back.
Sehr gute Lage mitten in Manhattan
Leider etwas teurer und draußen etwas laut
The hotel itself was great, the restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was great until we checked out.
We booked this room on IHG points and when we checked out we were surprised to see “Amenity Fees” on our bill totaling over $100. This was not disclosed when we booked the rooms nor when we checked in.
Honestly it feels like a billion dollar company nickel and diming their customers. As an IHG diamond member, I expect better.
Breakfast was pretty bad for $60 a person. We ate twice as we had credit to use. Expect your dirty plates to stay with your table until you leave. Waiters do not come around to check refills or check if you need anything. Honestly, Dennys is upscale compared to this place. Food selection also no bueno. Yogurt was like Elmer’s glue. Overnight oats was drying concrete. Eggs were powdered eggs, I kid you not lol.. To go coffee you dispense yourself is $6. Beg your pardon? The $300 per night apparently is just the room. Room was solid, quiet. A carafe of water would go a long way to improve it. Bed was good, pillows are lumpy and not good. Location is good. If you come in with low service expectations and are eating breakfast elsewhere this is the place for you. Else find a nicer hotel.
Good location and nice room
No water and utensils in the rooms
We had heard great things about this hotel. The location is great, but the hotel is very understaffed. When we arrived it took 10-15 minutes (at least) to check in as there was only 1 person at reception. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. However no one cleans the halls. Room service trays were left out for 12 + hours. It’s just gross to be dodging ice cream cartons and room service trays. We also met friends for coffee/drinks at the hotel bar. Once we got our drinks, we didn’t see the waiter again for about an hour. Overall a weird experience. The hotel feels dated and tired. There are so many places to stay in NYC, I think we’ll go elsewhere next time.
Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
Great location, cozy rooms, nice atmosphere. Room perfectly clean each day (very nice cleaning lady). But we were very disappointed by the service in the lobby which was cold and too formal, except for 2 or 3 people whose names I don't remember. People were rarely nice and put on a very serious face. At our arrival at the front desk, they didn't seem to be informed about some information that I gave well in advance and that put us in a long procedure before getting to our rooms (what about the internal communication?). At the check out I had a very cold women who was apparently more preoccupied by her conversation with her colleagues than with the fact that we were leaving (no smile, goodbye or thank you). The most shocking to me was that the coffee machine on the bar in the morning wasn't free! I was told (once again in a very cold manner), that I had to drink my coffee in the lobby and not at the bar. By the way, most hotels in the world put some free coffee and tea in the lobby, how can we possibly make clients of the 'Barclay' pay 5 dollars for a coffee in a plastic cup? Same at the restaurant, manners were distant. I've travelled in many countries of the world and never had this feeling of not being really welcome. I am sorry to say so.
