CANCELLED ROOM AND STILL KEPT MY 300 EURO
Pros:

UPDATE: NO REFUND 2 MONTHS LATER , PLEASE BE CAREFUL, ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAD LOST MONEY HERE AND GOT CHARGED EXTRA ARE NOT LYING!!! YOU WILL EITHER COME AND THEY WILL SAY YOU HAVE TO PAY AGAIN EVEN THAT U PAID , OR YOU WILL BE TOLD TO FIND ANOTHER HOTEL. BOOKING COM STEPPED IN HOWEVER I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. HOTEL IGNORED EVERY MESSAGE AND TOTALLY DOESNT CARE ABOUT YOUR STAY THERE.

Cons:

I wrote messages on my other booking - no response
I purchased 2 days room for my friend- just to be told that -your booking has been cancelled after standing 2 hours in a row on busiest day of fireworks, but they are keeping the money for my other booking for 1 month. (Booking. com has stepped in)

- couldnt enter my own room on the day of going back to airport when room card suddenly stopped working- almost missed my 8 hrs flight back home because of long rows of people.
some woman complaining in the background when i came in row first for an emergency (otherwise would missed the flight)
very frustrating experience that caused more money loss that expected.

My money was charged, but they claimed "your booking is cancelled" no refund after a month.
Cons:

THIS SECOND BOOKING WAS FOR MY FRIEND AS A GIFT.. I CAME AND THE MAN AT RECEPTION SAID THAT THE BOOKING HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR MY FRIEND EVEN THAT I PAID FOR IT.
(please check cameras and see that I came with my friend to check him in the hotel on that day after 4PM time in Detroit 22nd of june!)

the man at the reception in evening took time to check my booking from my phone eventually to say that my booking has been cancelled by hotel, I was surprised because I had paid for everything and have all the proof. On that day of the fireworks we stood in a long row for almost 2 hours for a checking just to find out that they had no room for my friend that i paid for.
However Hotel didnt cancelled the booking ,because I checked i had no refund in my card. I was feeling bad when on the busiest day of fireworks my friend had nowhere to stay. Car parks were all full and roads were closed. At some point i gave up that they will give me money back as i wrote many messages and got no response. I have proof of being charged and conversations saved.

UPDATE: THEY NEVER REFUNDED MY MONEY. SOME TIME LATER MY BANK DETAILS ALSO GOT STOLEN

Bad, won’t be booking again.
Pros:

Proximity to downtown.

Cons:

It’s an old and tired hotel that had dirty surfaces and carpets. Our room wasn’t cleaned or amenities replenished. There was a blood stain on the pillow. It’s very difficult to find your way out.

Disappointing overall; Friendly, responsive staff, notwithstanding
Pros:

I stayed at this Marriott in Detroit from August 1-3. All my interactions with the staff were absolutely fine - positive, responsive, helpful. But for the price we paid, I had higher expectations, and I was seriously underwhelmed. Everything looks a little worse for wear and grubby. It has the appearance of a hotel where upper management is letting things slide (because the place is too darn big) or is asking employees to do more with less, or maybe the presence of ICE offices in Detroit has scared potential employees from applying for work, and the hotel is down staff. I heard a lot of noise from other rooms. The amenities are bare minimum. Housecleaning only appeared at 7:30 PM and didn’t even have coffee pod replacements. I needed to go down to the lobby for pods and coffee cups. There were piles of used sheets in the corridors that never seemed to move which was kind of weird.

Aging Property on it's Last Leg
Pros:

I struggled with this review because some of it isn't Marriott's fault, but here is why I only gave 3 stars: the Renaissance Center is currently readying for a major overhaul, and as a result it's a ghost town in that giant building. What used to be dozens of restaurants, bustling business, and constant activity is now a shell of a building with the Marriot the only real thing left standing (along with 2 restaurants). So it's dark and depressing in that giant building. Elevators can occasionally be slow, and the winding corridors are easy to get lost in. The guest rooms are dated, but adequate. I found the bed to be comfortable, the bathroom all in good working order, but did struggle heavily with regulating the HVAC in the room (it was either too hot or too cold almost every night). I know the location isn't their fault, but I thought there were things within Marriott's control that could have made the experience a little more positive.

The elevator experience was a low point; the staff's professionalism made the rest of our stay feel much higher.
Pros:

Our stay at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center was one we won't soon forget—for both good and bad reasons.
The biggest positive was the staff. Every employee we encountered demonstrated professionalism, kindness, and genuine care. Patrina at Fuell somehow managed a packed breakfast crowd with grace and an incredibly positive attitude. Angela from Renaissance Center security was always welcoming after long conference days. After we experienced a frightening incident, Kyle and Phillip from Security, Jay at the Front Desk, and John from Engineering all went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and cared for. They truly exemplified outstanding hospitality.

Unfortunately, the hotel itself told a different story.
My husband and I became trapped in an elevator somewhere between the 30th-40th floors for approximately 35 minutes. After we were safely out, all those named above truly tried to calm our fears and anxieties caused by the incident.

We were moved to a room on a lower floor, but unfortunately, our room change introduced new issues—a malfunctioning television and a coffee maker that didn't work.

While I could go on about the age of the building and some of the additional issues we encountered, I'll simply say that the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center has seen better days. With a new JW Marriott being built in downtown Detroit, it seems this property may be nearing the end of its chapter.

In the end, the building let us down, but the employees did not. The staff's professionalism, empathy, and commitment to customer service after the incident turned what could have been an entirely negative experience into one where we left appreciating the people, even if we were disappointed by the property itself.

Pros:

Location
Staff

Cons:

•The maid didn't clean the room for 3 nights and 4 days after we requested it be cleaned 2 times.

•Did not have towels for bathing.

•Requested a blanket on day 1, but it took them 2 days to deliver it.

•ADA Violations- We tried to go to the Anidamo Restaurant in the hotel area and to take the People Mover to Greek Town. There was no way to reach these locations because the elevators to them were out of service; I use a mobility scooter and could not use the escalator.
