Cons:

Think the double or full size beds was a poor decision. Queen size beds need to be an option for families that are traveling. Had to request 2 roll aways to make up for the small beds.

Downtown Portsmouth Holiday Inn on the Ohio River
Pros:

Stayed here one night with family for their class reunion. Hotel building dates to 1971, but has been recently renovated strictly to the modern IHG style manual, all gray paint, gray carpet, gray LVP flooring and LED lighting, and the same pictures you see in any HI, not a single reference to the local historic area. Lobby overlooks an enormous indoor pool area, which we did not use, but it looked fine. Plenty of free parking. Room was quiet, with a newer, comfortable bed and appeared recently remodeled with mostly hard-surface LVP flooring. A/C unit was one of those despicable through-the-wall units which was pretty loud but cooled well. Location directly on the Ohio River can be damp but the hotel had the A/C cranking to help offset it. South facing rooms have a view of the Ohio River. Hotel contacted us in advance to say the only elevator was not working, but it had been repaired on our arrival, which surely helped us reach our 4th floor rooms. Hotel banquet food for the reunion was excellent and staff were friendly. Breakfast (not included with room) was OK, typical hotel fare right off the Sysco truck. Overall, a good choice if in the Portsmouth area and the only hotel downtown. (Another hotel down the street appears to have stopped construction mid-build.) The nearby downtown has seen better days, but some shops and other businesses add a bit of life and it appears Portsmouth is working on rebuilding. The floodwall murals are very cool.

The room was nice, but the sheets were not clean and there were weevils in the bathroom.
