Duxton Reserve is a charming boutique gem in the heart of Chinatown. We stayed in the Shophouse Room, which initially felt a little small, but we soon realised it was thoughtfully designed and comfortable. The heritage style is darker and cosy, and the room has window privacy covers in the form of pull‑over boards/rollers hidden behind the headboard — something we only discovered the next day, so a quick mention at check‑in would help future guests. Housekeeping kept the room spotless, and everything worked perfectly.
We checked in early at 6:30am (having booked the night before), and the lady at reception was incredibly warm and welcoming at that hour. She checked us in smoothly and arranged for our bags to be placed in the room straight away. As Bonvoy members, we received a lovely welcome letter, which was a thoughtful touch.
A highlight of our stay was meeting Jeff Crow, the GM. Jeff greeted us almost every day, always warm, friendly, and genuinely appreciative. His hospitality made the stay feel personal and memorable. The team also kindly showed us other room types for future visits, which was helpful for planning our next stay.
Breakfast in the restaurant was delicious à la carte, though service slowed down after 9am during busy periods. Our package included daily nibbles, drinks, and evening cocktails, which added a lovely boutique feel. Transfers were included, and the team ensured we were picked up and dropped off on time in comfortable vehicles.
The location is excellent — close to MRT lines, easy to navigate, and walking distance to many places. We walked to Lau Pa Sat and Chinatown easily, and late‑night dining options nearby were convenient, though some restaurants close around 9pm. We didn’t dine in the hotel restaurant often as we usually arrived back late and it had closed.
Overall, Duxton Reserve is beautifully run, full of character, and offers warm, personalised service. Jeff’s and Michelle's hospitality truly stands out. We would not hesitate to return.
Liked: Warm service, heritage charm, Shophouse Room comfort, Jeff’s daily hospitality, great location.Amazing masala chai and acai bowl at breakfast!
Improve: Breakfast speed during busy hours; clearer guidance on window privacy covers.
I recently spent a few days at Duxton Reserve Singapore and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end.
The hotel is perfectly located in Duxton Hill, one of the most charming neighbourhoods in Singapore. Surrounded by beautiful heritage shophouses, restaurants, bars and cafés, it is incredibly easy to explore the city from here, while still feeling like you are staying in a real neighbourhood rather than in a purely tourist area.
The hotel itself is something special. Set within historic shophouses, it has been designed by renowned British designer Anouska Hempel, and the interiors have an incredible sense of character. The combination of heritage architecture, bold colours, black lacquer, gold details and Oriental influences makes the hotel feel completely different from a typical luxury hotel. It is full of personality.
But what really made my stay memorable was the team.
Janice, the Front Office Manager, was incredibly helpful and efficient throughout my stay. On my departure day, I had to change my transportation arrangements at very short notice, and she immediately went out of her way to help me reorganise everything. As I was leaving very early, the team also prepared a wonderful breakfast to take with me. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a perfect example of the level of care I experienced throughout my stay.
A special thank you as well to Michelle, Krego, Ali and Jaryl from the F&B team. Everyone was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming, which made the hotel feel very personal.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Anushka from the marketing team, who is from Nepal, as well as the General Manager, who is from England. I always find it fascinating and inspiring to meet people who have moved abroad to work and build their careers in different parts of the world. It added another lovely personal dimension to my stay.
I also had the opportunity to dine at Yellow Pot, the hotel’s modern Chinese restaurant, and it was one of the highlights of my stay. I loved the way it offers a contemporary perspective on Chinese cuisine while remaining rooted in its traditions. It is a really interesting dining experience and definitely worth trying while staying at the hotel.
Another detail I really appreciated was the complimentary chauffeur transfer to and from the airport. After travelling, having someone waiting for you at the airport and taking you directly to the hotel makes such a difference. The stay also includes cocktails, snacks and small bites at the hotel’s lounge, which is a wonderful touch and makes it a lovely place to unwind at the end of the day.
Overall, Duxton Reserve combines three things exceptionally well: a fantastic location, genuinely distinctive design and, above all, a wonderful team.
It is not just a beautiful hotel; it is a hotel where the people make you feel looked after. I would highly recommend Duxton Reserve to anyone looking for somewhere stylish, full of character and very well located in Singapore.
I would happily stay here again.
The food was perfect! The waitress Liqong was bery nice!
My partner and I had an absolutely phenomenal time at the Duxton Reserve in Singapore! The staff were so kind, the room was incredible, and we had an amazing experience. The location was very close to what we wanted to visit, the space was clean and tidy, the decor beautiful, and the entire vibe was lovely! We will absolutely be back, thank you to everyone who made our time so special!
The care and consideration of the staff to help us find and change to the right room for us .
Initially the room we chose was too small and dark.
I am writing to share my feedback regarding a recent weekend stay at The Duxton Reserve. While I had high expectations for the property, the service experience at the lounge during the evening was deeply disappointing and fell well below the standard one expects from a luxury hotel.
During our visit, the lounge was quiet, with only two guests present. Despite this, the service level was remarkably poor. Staff members were observed sitting in the lounge area, largely disengaged and prioritizing personal matters over guest service. On one occasion, a staff member, Michelle, was heard speaking loudly on her phone regarding work shift changes, ignoring our presence entirely. When we requested a menu, rather than assisting us directly, she simply shouted across the room for a colleague to provide it, despite being perfectly positioned to assist us herself.
Furthermore, the interaction regarding our consumption was unprofessional and handled with a total lack of tact. After ordering our third round of drinks, we were informed by Michelle that our service was being paused due to concerns about intoxication. Having stayed at hundreds of luxury hotels worldwide, I found this remark to be both unprecedented and presumptuous.
Additionally, the staff displayed an intrusive attitude toward our private activities. They asked several highly personal questions regarding our stay, seemingly because we had invited a few friends over before heading out for dinner. The staff unfairly assumed that we were hosting a party in our room, which was an uncomfortable and inaccurate judgment to make.
Given our limited interaction and the absence of any behavior that would warrant such comments, these encounters felt entirely inappropriate and were the low point of what should have been a relaxing evening.
I hope that management takes this feedback seriously, as the lack of professional etiquette and the poor attitude displayed by the lounge team significantly impacted our stay. I trust you will look into these service standards to ensure future guests do not have a similar experience.
I felt this hotel fell very short of my regular Bonvoy experiences. I was pleaded to be emailed prior to arrival to be advised I was upgraded as a platinum member and would have club, breakfast and laundry included upon check in I was told no laundry as I was using point for my stay.
Then my room had a faulty shower. I was given another room to move to with no offer of help. That shower worked but only on one setting. I also did not get my room serviced that I moved to. I think any hotel that moves you should offer an apology and a small token but nothing was provided. No follow up at all to see if I was ok. On the last day I had late checkout and asked if my room could be serviced since it hasn’t been the day before and have had this done many times. I was told no as I was checking out/ all in all an unpleasant experience.
Decor, comfort, scent, plenty of water and coffee machine, toiletries in shower
Tea types could improve to add quality herbal teas like peppermint and chamomile, lighting switches a little hard to find
This is our second visit to the Dutton Reserve. We love everything about the hotel. The interior design is a mix of modern and classic Chinese design.the rooms are comfortable and spacious. The staff were great and the food outstanding. One particular benefit is the Executive Menu for snacks and drinks, they don’t have a Marriott M Club, but offer amenities to members through the day in the lounge.
The hotel location is very convenient. Very near two MRT stations and 3 major bus routes, a 7 minute walk to China town. And the Maxwell food center is nearby.
The street in front of the hotel is quiet and attractive with shophouses on both sides. You feel that you live in a neighborhood rather than a modern development complex.
If we return to Singapore, which is quite likely, the Duxton Reserve will be our choice of hotel.
We stayed at the Duxton Reserve in Singapore on the Easter weekend. The room was comfortable and we loved the decor of the hotel and the room. Many thanks to the hospitable and helpful staff, including Danial, Ali and the ladies at reception. We look forward to visiting again.
nice design hotel with an antique style
Beautiful boutique hotel, staff are as lovely as always, was upgrade to a lovely loft suite which wsa amazing. Food and drink at the lounge were fantastic too.
The Duxton staff is amazing. Each person was ready to help and kind. The location is also great, since we could walk to plenty of great restaurants and food stalls as well as the Maxwell train station. My only hit would be the bed…it had a frame that went around three sides of the bed, and the person on the frame side had to climb over the other person to get in or out. The mattress was loud and not comfortable. We love the Autograph collection properties, and this aspect, while perhaps a traditional bed that fit the decor, was not great. The bar and restaurant were quiet and the food and beverages were just what we wanted.
Service at the hotel was great. The staff were very welcoming and helpful from the moment I arrived, and check-in was a breeze. I also appreciated that the room was stocked with plenty of complimentary water, which is a thoughtful touch and something that’s becoming quite rare in many hotels these days.
The room itself was on the smaller side, and the lighting setup might benefit from a little more flexibility. There was one switch controlling the room lights, with spotlights directly above the bed. It could be nice to have dimmers or separate switches so guests can keep some softer lighting on while winding down in the evening.
Overall, a very pleasant stay with excellent service.
