Lovely, cool hotel that needs to upgrade some rooms.
Pros:

The location was amazing. Wonderful old town neighborhood. The restaurant was also great and the room was cool with funky wallpaper and nice toiletries.

Cons:

I’ve already addressed this with the staff but I was in a too floor room all the way at the end of the hall. The room had only one small, high window and the window shade could only be reached by having to climb onto a precarious roller chair, then a glass-topped table. It was frankly unsafe. But it was either do that or deal with a room so bright you could read at night with no lights on. Also — the mattress was obviously old and worn out. It was completely saggy, but when I tried to move Niki to the middle to find firmer ground, I could feel a seam as though it was two mattresses pushed together. Just uncomfortable. Between that, the window and the jet lag, I barely slept for two nights.

Return visit to the Alexandrian
Pros:

We had a wonderful holiday return stay at The Alexandrian and truly felt right at home. Sam, the general manager, and his entire team go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. Our suite was fantastic, Chef Victor sent an incredible platter of fruits and desserts, and Sam surprised us with a bottle of wine upon arrival. From the front door to the front desk, the staff is exceptional. We’re already looking forward to our next visit in the spring.

Spacious King Room
Pros:

If you book this hotel use a parking app and save money. We were able to park in the hotel garage underneath the property. It was nice to be greeted with a welcome bag that included two bottles of water and chocolates. The elevators were small and closed very quickly. We had to rush to the doors or they would close before we got on. Hopefully the timing can be adjusted for anyone who is not standing next to the door that opens first. The room was one of the largest I’ve seen in a historic area and we appreciated the space. For the price it was not as luxurious as one might expect. They seem to be working on some maintenance needs in the lobby and one of our curtains was missing a gold button. Small details, but they add up. It was centrally located for exploring Alexandria.

Would have been great if there was heat and wifi. Staff was very friendly
Pros:

Location is great and the hotel itself is very nice, clean and comfortable.

Cons:

Was only there one night but there was no heat starting at the night and never came back on during my stay. WiFi is not free and had to have their IT team resolve an issue that was blocking me from connecting.

Unreasonable Hold Charges
Pros:

I typically stay here every quarter for work conferences because of the great location and convenience to work. In December, I stayed for a week and tried to put incidentals on my personal card and found out that they put a hold on it. I was furious because they had my work credit card already for the room charge and all I wanted to do was put the 7 dollar water bottle they put in your room on my personal card. ( Don’t even get me started with that scam as well) I was extremely upset because I had some very important payments coming out of my checking and was concerned they would bouce before I could transfer money so I went down to the front desk and the agent informed me there was nothing he could do to release the funds. He said I should have just paid upon check out. I informed him that someone should have let me know this and about the hold. I asked to speak to a manager but he blew me off and said that no one was available and then told me to have a nice day. Needless to say, I will never stay here again. How greedy do you have to be to place holds on both the cards, seriously? Like you aren’t going to get your money? Never again!

Okay but overpriced as well as parking being overpriced
Cons:

No heating vents in bathroom area which made it very cold. Shower temperature was luke warm at best. Between room being cold and shower being cold it was very uncomfortable

Great location but not Autograph Collection worthy
Pros:

The location is great. Because of that, I get it as a good spot for big parties-weddings, reunions, etc… We often stay in Autograph Collection hotels, and property-wise, this isn’t close to others. The rooms are dark, dated, small, and shabby. Marriott really shouldn’t market this in the Autograph collection until it is updated.

Great location but disappointing stay
Pros:

We have stayed annually at the Alexandrian for the past several years for a family staycation. In short, service has gone downhill and the hotel is looking tired, which is a pity because the location is fantastic and previous stays have been good. The person who checked us spent several minutes typing on her computer before even acknowledging us. (There was nobody else at the front desk.) No mention was made of what our destination fee covered (though we’ve been there previously, a reminder would have been nice). Any time I had a question for the front desk, the staff was on the more dismissive side. We were in a room on the 5th floor and while we did not hear any construction work being done, the room, in particular the bathroom, showed its age and there was a faint stale odor. It’s a pity, but this is probably our last year at this hotel and we’ll be looking elsewhere in Alexandria in the future.

Kamal was the BEST! 😊
Pros:

I enjoyed my stay at The Alexandrian, but Kamal made it even better. He was very courteous, kind, and helpful. He needs a raise because his personality and work ethic was wonderful.

Resort fee covers the construction dust
Pros:

This was my 2nd stay at the hotel and it has become very tired in the years between visits.

The positives: Staff and location are great. Friendly and prompt check-in. Room was ready at 4pm. $40/night parking under hotel. Bottles of water offered. The lobby is cozy and welcoming.

Negatives: The elevator opened to the 5th floor covered in plastic, painters tape, DUST and some type of blower that sounded like a jet engine in the hallway. If you are here to sleep, try another hotel. The room is dark and tired and endless street noise. A "large" guest room is still on the very small side with a bathroom that has zero vanity space to get ready. The $25/night resort fee covered what exactly? Enough construction dust on the furniture to leave notes for housekeeping with your finger.

Again, location is great, staff are nice, but the upkeep doesn't justify the prices and fees.

Amazing staff and Sam
Pros:

The Alexandrian is a wonderful hotel with the best locations. It's close to so many amazing shops and restaurants including King & Rye located in the hotel. I had breakfast there and it was delicious. My room was quite comfortable and decorated nicely. I did have an issue so I spoke to the front desk (I can't remember their names) and they couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. They contacted Sam, the Assistant General Manager, and he reached out to me within minutes and the issue was resolved. He went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. Thanks Sam!!!

Family time!
Pros:

What a fabulous site for our family reunion! The hotel was clean and welcoming from the front desk to the bar, The dining room, and our room which was cheerful and bright. In particular I would like to thank Sam Shaheen and Beza Yared for their kind attention to our entire group of 20 individuals.
I cannot think of a better location for a group of out of towners. Plenty of shopping, sightseeing, and excellent restaurants in a walkable neighbor hood. Looking forward to our next visit.

Amazing staff makes all the difference
Pros:

Lovely hotel, great location, and spotlessly clean rooms. But the highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the two amazing guys working the front desk Beza Yared and Chris (I hope I have their names right!). Their energy was contagious! They were incredibly helpful, full of great advice, and handled everything with a smile and effortless efficiency. They made check-out a breeze and always had a moment for a friendly chat. Fantastic service!

Pros:

We had a small gathering of friends and family and enjoyed the hotel immensely. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. We had the use of the 5 th floor hospitality suite for the 3 days, which was wonderful. The hotel location is perfect and made our friends and family comfortable. Kudos to the wonderful staff!
