The location was easily one of the best things about the Holiday Inn Express in Burnaby. It was only about a two-minute walk from Metrotown SkyTrain Station, which made getting around Metro Vancouver very easy and convenient. The hotel is also surrounded by plenty of shops, restaurants, and everyday essentials. Metropolis at Metrotown is nearby and includes Walmart, T&T Supermarket, and many other major retailers. There are also several restaurants and businesses within walking distance, including Earls, Pur & Simple, and Dollarama.
I also want to highlight the staff. Everyone I interacted with was professional, kind, and helpful throughout my stay especially Ashley and Brandon. Their customer service was definitely one of the strongest aspects of the hotel.
Unfortunately, the condition of the hotel was extremely disappointing. I had to change rooms three times during my stay because I was unhappy with the rooms I was given. The rooms felt old, damp, poorly ventilated, and generally underwhelming. Cleanliness was also a concern. I found cobwebs in my room, and the overall space did not feel properly cleaned or maintained. Wallpaper was peeling from one corner of the room, and several of the ceilings had unusual bulges or uneven shapes that made the rooms feel even more poorly maintained.
One of the refrigerators had a very strong and unpleasant smell, which made the room even more uncomfortable. The infrastructure throughout the rooms also felt dated and neglected. In one room, the air-conditioning unit was sitting on the floor and being propped up by two bricks. I was told that this was one of the more upgraded rooms, which made the situation even more surprising.
The rooms felt stuffy and damp, and I did not sleep well during my stay. I actually found myself trying to spend as little time at the hotel as possible because I did not feel comfortable relaxing there. That was especially disappointing because, when I am travelling, I want my hotel room to feel like a clean and comfortable place to return to at the end of the day.
On my second day, the hotel was giving guests Tim Hortons gift cards because there was apparently an issue with breakfast. I appreciated the gesture, but I personally do not enjoy Tim Hortons and would have preferred the hotel breakfast that I had expected as part of my stay. After that experience, I did not return for breakfast and instead went to restaurants in the surrounding area.
I will be uploading photos so that people can see the condition of the rooms for themselves. I would caution future guests not to rely entirely on the promotional photos online, because what I experienced did not match the impression I had when booking. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel.
The staff were very hospitable and warm. The hotel is also neat and spacious.

location and parking, really convenient. room was what you can expect from a northamerican budget hotel.

Very convenient location - really close to the skytrain and the mall. Nice outdoor heated pool open almost all day.
Breakfast was ok not great, not too many options to choose from.
Stayed here for a few nights and had no complaints. Breakfast was really good, plenty to choose from and they kept it topped up even later in the morning. The metro is basically right outside the door, which made getting around easy. Staff were friendly and actually helpful when we had questions. Would stay again.
