Lovely stay
Pros:

The location of the hotel is great - right at the Wharf itself. The happy hour from 5 to 7 in the evening allows you to socialise with other guests at the hotel and the atmosphere is lively and celebratory. The rooms are big and comfortable with good view.

Cons:

The payment system kept on charging us for extra days of the stay which caused some worry for us. However, the staff was patient and considerate in dealing with our questions.

Todo organizado y limpio
Pros:

Nice Hotel & Extremely NICE MODs and Staff
Pros:

I usually stay in the next door Holiday Inn Express due to the complimentary breakfast offered by Holiday Inn. This time I selected Kimpton Alton is consider one of the Fine Hotel selections with Amex Platinum card holders. I booked 2 nights originally and then changed mind and booked an extra night. Therefore, I have 2 separate reservations and message the hotel to combine both. The night we arrived on Dec 20, 2025, there was a power outage in Bay Area. Luckily, hotels and restaurants in Fishermen Wharf not affected! On our way, we can see the whole city are without lights and traffic lights, Waymo stranded because without traffic lights to provide guidance, it just stayed stationary on the street and this blocks the already busy traffic. Ok, back to Kimpton Alton. First, we were expecting a cul de sec entrance like the next day Holiday Inn Express and was not sure we arrived at the right entrance. Luckily, a valet was available and acknowledged that this is the entrance. The valet is kind enough to bring the luggage cart to the front entrance as we have lots of luggage to unload. The front desk lady was friendly and the MOD (a young-looking Caucasian guy) helped us to get the cart into our room. Thumb Up for this MOD for doing this!!!! I misunderstood that it is 600 welcome points or $10 worth of purchase at the snack area and at the end of the 3rd night stay, while checking out and questioning the charge for the snacks, the MOD (another good looking Asian guy) just generously waived the snack charges after learning the misunderstandings! Well, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE INDEED from all the MODs. Although the room that we had faced the parking structure of Fishermen Wharf, we didn't hear much noise except probably the electric streetcar that started to operate around 6 or 7 am and the sound is not loud for me. We also received $100 per stay, and you can use this toward the daily amenity fees and taxes apart from ordering breakfast. We did order the pricey breakfast item at Abaca on the morning we checked out. The Bubble Pancake ($18) which is meh but the Cheeseburger ($12) is not bad. The breakfast room is very bright and nicely decorated. I feel that if we ordered delivery from outside, can use the breakfast room to enjoy the breakfast. Of course, would be nice to at least order a coffee or two from Abaca. Would I stay in Kimpton Alton again? Yes, but it will be using the Amex Platinum booking so that we get the $100 credits for a 2-night prepaid stay and $300 hotel credits per calendar year from AMEX Platinum.

Don’t expect program benefits to be honored
Pros:

Decent if somewhat not well-kept Kimpton. Great location.

Major gripe is how they try to get out of providing members with breakfast that is a very clearly stated benefit that they wiggle out of. They advertise that their restaurant is award winning on the site but then make up some excuse that it is not owned by the hotel — why is it featured as an amenity and literally located inside the hotel lobby.

Also, it’s very clear that the restaurant does work with the hotel because they even sell food packages so it’s really just a cop-out

This is just a terrible way to attempt to get out of providing a benefit. Shame on IHG for allowing them to continue this (previous guests have remarked on this issue).

Clean, Comfortable and Close to the Wharf!
Pros:

The room is very clean and roomy..we felt very welcome.at the hotel and it is so very close to the Wharf. They have an evening cocktail hour ( Drinks, not food ) I enjoyed it and the coffee in the morning is until 9 AM and very good. Next time we will definitely eat at the restaurant it looked and smelled amazing.

What a Weird Hotel
Pros:

I didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff. What interaction I had was very good. The place was odd, though. This was my first time at a Kimpton. Do they all have DJs next to the front desk? Do they all do a happy hour? Was it just because we stayed there on Friday and Saturday nights? It was definitely a different vibe than your typical hotel.

All the pictures on here from management seem to be of the place, but after staying there, I can say that they captured those common areas on a really good day. Couches and chairs look pretty worn out now. The seats are all made for people under 5'8".

The room was decent. I don't love the half open shower stall. I really didn't like the shower controls on the opposite wall because then you hear drip drip drip forever. I also don't love the sheeting (duvet between two flat sheets). I generally liked the room and bed. Our room was just above street level, facing Point Street. I didn't notice much noise.

A couple more typical hotel things, like a coffee maker and a suitcase stand, would have made the room better. Just charge $5/night more and pay off the coffee makers in a couple weeks. People will still go downstairs and buy your overpriced coffee. I promise. Also, there are lots of places to buy alcohol and snacks nearby, so don't use their little convenience area unless you've got a per diem burning a hole in your pocket.
