From the moment you step through the gates at Kasbah Ait Ben Moro, you are transported from the dry rugged landscape to tranquil oasis. There is a warm welcome from all the staff, who are genuinely happy to cater for your every need. The Bar lounge has a well stocked honesty fridge, although a Muslim country, you can help yourself to wine, beer, water etc, relaxing on a sun bed beside the inviting pool, perfect after a day visiting the many historic Kasbah ruins in the area.
If you are lucky, the owner, Juan, who brought this Kasbah back to life some 20+ years ago, will give you the history, his love for the Kasbah and the local people is evident.
The kasbahs decor is in keeping with the honesty of the Kasbah, rustic and very comfortable with lovely bathrooms. The Kasbah offers a delicious light breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, copious amounts of coffee and Moroccan rghaif (pancakes) try with the local honey. If you want the real Morocco experience then book in here!
Extremely Genuine and pleasant experience - Authentic Kasbah renovated with traditional techniques. You are not in a Marriott, and you shouldn't be as you are in the desert away from the western world. Everything works perfectly, there is even AC although no need in March there. This place is so peaceful, I haven't rested and slept that well for a couple of nights, even in the fanciest 5-star hotels in the world.
Tips:
1. Stay for dinner - food is excellent and simple - you are served what was planned and prepared in the kitchen today, so no headache and waiting time with menu. Want wine? 1 bottle option. After a long day traveling, that is what you need, believe me.
2.Get to know the owner Juan, it's easy as he is everywhere and you will get to have dinner with him and his friends in the living room - he will tell you the whole story about the Kasbah, how he started 23 years ago.
This one-of-a-kind kasbah is not to be missed if your travels take you by Ourzazate. The kasbah has been restored to its original glory by the owner using the original, traditional materials of daube and wat, and is an amazing chance to experience life inside an architectural marvel. We spent a magical winter night in the room with an adjoining living room, and the staff kindly lit us a fire after dinner. This is a historical building, with narrow staircases to reach your room, and while I wouldn't write home about water pressure, water was plenty hot and the heating/ AC installed in our rooms worked great. Food was delicious and freshly prepared- many levels above the tragic tourist fare that plagues many foreign-oriented establishments in Morocco. My only regret is that we couldn't stay any longer- I would recommend this kasbah wholeheartedly, in both winter and summer, when you'll be more likely to take advantage of the gorgeous poo
We loved our stay at Ben Moro. We stayed here about 20 years earlier, and it still didn't disappoint. Such beautiful views, such an incredible atmosphere, a lovely swimming pool, arresting sights round every corner. We were wonderfully looked after. The Kasbah is beautifully and carefully restored. We would recommend this to anyone.
This kasbah is perfect. Perfectly, lovingly restored; perfectly calm; and the perfect place to spend a few days. We arrived dusty, tired, and needing some peace after too many nights in a row on the road, and we left restored, re-energized, and wishing we could stay for longer.
Juan and his team have done a very impressive job restoring the kasbah using traditional methods. The steep, winding stone staircases lead you up through the towers of the kasbah, where you enter your room to find stone floors, traditional walls, and stunning woven ceilings. The views from the top are absolutely unforgettable, especially at sunrise and sunset. The garden surrounding the kasbah has been lovingly tended throughout the kasbah's closure for the pandemic, and the stunning pool is surrounded by lush greenery. The bar area is the perfect place to relax with a cup of tea and a book or a deck of cards, and the restaurant is incomparable. The food we ate here was some of the best we had on our trip, and the staff were wonderful about accommodating dietary restrictions and serving everything on time.
The rooms were quiet, cool, and peaceful. The bedding is high-quality, and the mattresses are comfortable. The en-suite bathroom is spacious, and the shower had ample hot water (though we tried not to shower for too long, knowing that we were in an oasis in the desert!).
Juan is an excellent host; very interesting, funny, and quick to resolve any problems. We enjoyed meeting him and spending time with him.
We stayed in March 2022, and we were lucky to have the kasbah all to ourselves, being the first guests since the kasbah reopened. Everything was clean, beautiful, and ready to go. The pool was very chilly - but that didn't stop us from dipping our feet in, or the kids from swimming in the afternoons! Sitting next to the pool, looking out at the oasis with a cup of tea, was an absolutely lovely way to spend an afternoon.
All in all, this was an absolutely magnificent experience, one that I will be recommending to anyone within earshot. We stayed for three nights, and we all could have stayed for at least three more. Many thanks to Juan; we had a lovely time, and we can't wait to come visit again!
We highly recommend Kasbah Ait Ben Moro.
We were happy to find a place outside Ouarzazate, which is busy and full of poor quality, overpriced hotels.
Juan, the current owner and person responsible for restoring this wonderful building, clearly cares about the authenticity of this remote location.
The towers overlook the oasis, framed by the distant Atlas Mountains. The garden at the rear is extremely well designed and relaxing.
We stayed in two different rooms. One with a balcony opening to a central courtyard. The other was a tower suite with a fireplace. Both were excellent.
The staff are incredibly friendly and Juan is happy to provide tips and advice for the next part of your holiday.
What a magic place. Most of the time I felt like I was in an ancient dream. It is spectacular. And you feel so looked after. The owner and team are there tending to your every need so hospitable and accommodating. Still dreaming of it and those magic desert winds and sunsets. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Or, if you're being realistic, 4 or 5? But 7 would be better. Or a few more,
After all, you've crossed the Atlas with thoughts of 1001 nights and thoughts of The Morocco That Was. And there's no better place to meet the northern reaches of the Sahara than here.
Even if you don't meet with Walter Harris, you may have the good fortune to meet with Juan and talk with him of life at the foot of the mighty Atlas.
This is a lovely Kasbah that has been converted into a hotel. We stayed here for one night after our visit to Ait Benhaddou. It was an unique experience for me compared to the usual modern hotels. I was really touched by the staff who brought dinner to our room upon our request at no extra charge. My friend had fallen down earlier at Ait Benhaddou and sustained some injuries, hence had difficulty climbing down the stairs. The food they prepared for us was amazing, the tagine was delicious.
The view from the terrace is breathtakingly beautiful. The main terrace faces the west. You can relax on the terrace and watch the sunset. In the morning, one of the staff came and showed me a small corner hidden from the main terrace where I could see the sunrise. Really appreciate the dedication of the staff here. I definitely recommend this kasbah if you are visiting Ait Benhaddou.
This is possibly one of the most beautiful properties in which I've ever stayed. It has been renovated and decorated in such an elegantly 'modest' way (which I mean as an absolute compliment, if you see it you'll understand) that it just makes you sigh....take a deep breath....and relax. Clearly a huge amount of time and effort has gone into it. It's like stepping back in time (all the ancient and local methods have been utilised), but with the added value of excellent water pressure and heating (it was December!).
I had the pleasure to chat with the owner, Juan, who was as welcoming and gracious as one could hope: I felt that I was a house guest rather than a paying one. His team are amazing, they convey a warmth and willingness to help that is so often lacking elsewhere. Something that really demonstrates this is that they operate an honour bar: take a drink and just let them know about it at check out. Wonderful. The dinner I had was fabulous and excellent value, eaten in the lovely dining room with the big fire.
As you may have guessed, I'm a fan. I suspect that you will be too.
For me this was one of the most memorable stays in any hotel ever. It is was not the most comfortable one but it gave me a feeling as if I have travelled in the time. We stayed one night in a normal room and then got an upgrade to the two-room suit in the tower. The first room was also good but the second one was just amazing. It has even a fireplace in the living room that we could light on. The windows are rather small (obviously, since it is a Kasbah) but the views from windows are amazing (in both rooms that we stayed), and there is a beautiful and peaceful Garden in the backside of the Kasbah. The staffs are friendly and helpful.
We also met the owner, a very friendly and open person who did an incredible job to renovate and keep this Kasbah in good shape for over 20 years.
A large Kasbah on the main road about 20k east of Ousazezet near the Oasis village of Skoura. The place is built like a castle lots of rooms and a lovely garden and swimming pool at the back with views over the oasis. We had the a room at the top of one of the turrets. A comfortable room with a separate lounge and shower room. The food was good and it makes a good stopping off place for those driving down to the desert. To reach it is about 4.5 hours driving from Agadir.
Kasbah Ait Ben Moro Sakoura
Located off the main road although you have to look for the sign. A large fortress kasbah which dates back the 16th Century a nice swimming pool and gardens to the rear of the building. We stayed in the tower top room with a separate bath room and lounge. The room was good although the stone steps would be hard work if you had any disability, it felt like ascending the stairs of a lighthouse.
There are plenty of rooms on the ground floor.
The place is full of atmosphere and has been well restored.
