Good stay, but pool bar needs a bit of improvement
Pros:

In June last year, I stayed in the InterContinental Bangkok. So for my recent stay in the Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom, it was very hard for me not to compare the two.

Both were Reward Night booking, but unfortunately the IC did not have availability. So I ended up booking the HI for 6 nights for 87550 points (after I cancelled and rebooked, saving another 16k in points). So don't forget to regularly check Reward Night bookings. And checkout my other post on how to use a Confirmable Suite Upgrade (CSU) on a 5 day plus booking!

I arrived in the morning at just before 08:00, my room was ready at 10:00. I killed some time in the lobby, and got offered a free drink. I chose guava juice. When I ordered a second (paid) glass of guava juice, the glass magically doubled in size 😉

My points booking was for a King Premium Room. I used my CSU to upgrade to the newer one bedroom suite. But the hotel upgraded me to the larger, but older King Premium one bedroom suite. Despite that, I really liked the room. I had a nice view on the Lebua Sky Tower and skyline of Bangkok. And a nice mirror stand with corridor and two large closets connecting my living room and bedroom. Check out my room tour video.

The staff in the horel were very nice. The lobby is very nice too. it reminded me of the Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre, but with more seating and a beter view on Si Lom Road. Location wise, the BTS Sky Train Surasak is about 10 - 12 minutes of walking away, connecting to the Si Lom Line. Si Lom Soi 20 for street food (breakfast and lunch), is just over 5 minutes of walking.

If you fancy a nice walk: turn left, exiting the lobby. Turn right on Si Lom Road (Thanon Si Lom). Keep on walking, walk under the Sirat Express Way and then you will reach the Charoen Krung Road intersection. Turn right onto Charoen Krung Road, and you'll walk straight to Talat Noi. Turn left at Soi 30 for street food, Warehouse 30 and graffiti art murals. There you can take the Chao Phraya RIver Boat at Si Phraya. Or continue walking up Charoen Krung Road and you'll reach China Town.

Back to the hotel. I slept really well. The bed was fantastic.The air con was struggling a bit, but I never go lower than 24 degrees Celsius anyway, to keep temperature differences manageable (it was 38 degrees Celsius outside during the day). I ordered room service once, because after an early arriving and a full day in Bangkok I was to tired to venture out for food. Ordered Thai food, it was okay but did not blow me away. The room service menu link opened to a Google Drive folder...

I did not like the hotel breakfast. i found it very chaotic and the choices were so so. Even the omelets, which are hard to not get right. It made me want to be back in the IC Bangkok again, where the breakfast was top notch.

The HI has a lounge. As matter of at, I picked the HI because of the lounge. But ended up not going there at all. So no info on that. The pool bar was sub par too. Not only did I drank the worse piña collada ever, staff were closing the bar down 40 minutes before the bar closed.

When I ordered another drink, staff had to get the cutlery out to make my mango smoothie that was already cleaned and tucked away in a cabinet. They did not like that, but hey. Don't close early if you're still open. Again, when compared to the IC Bangkok, it came nowhere near.

All in all I had a good stay. I was mainly in the hotel for sleeping, taking a shower and changing clothes. Not to spend a lot of time. I had breakfast 2 times out of necessity, and it was free due to my Diamond Elite status anyway. But I'd rather eat out or skip breakfast and go straight for lunch.

My end verdict would be 7 out of 10. So good, but not great. With some staff improvements. Would I recommend the hotel?

Certainly. it's close to everything, but not so busy as the IC. Which is in the middle of of Bangkok, close to attractions and BTS. But also very hard to get a Grab fro,, as it;s close to two major intersections and traffic on Ploenchit Road is always crazy.

Nobler Aufenthalt zu vernünftigem Preis.
Pros:

Sehr gutes Frühstücksbuffet in sehr schönem, gehobenenem Ambiente. Sehr gute Qualität bei top Auswahl.
Schöne Zimmer, ordentliches Bad, alles funktioniert. Netter Pool, wenn auch kein spektakulärer Rooftop Pool, dafür sauber und gepflegt. Sehr aufmerksame Mitarbeiter, alle nett und kompetent. Tolle Lage in Bangkok, ein sehr guter Ort um ein par Tage zu verbringen, wird auch gerne von Geschäftsleuten genutzt.
Die Bewertung 4 Sterne sowie der Booking Wert ist hier in jedem Fall gerechtfertigt.

Cons:

An Kleinigkeiten merkt man dass das Haus schon etwas älter ist, aber das ist schon auf hohem Niveau gemeckert, ich finde es toll, meine Familie fand es toll und wir kommen gerne wieder.

Amazing and beautiful place to stay in Bangkok.
Pros:

This is a beautiful hotel. The staff are just amazing, so friendly, courteous and helpful. We were upgraded to executive level, which is well worth it as it includes a happy hour in the executive lounge and discounts on food and drinks.

The Bassaries
