The beds were very comfortable and the room was large.
We were told we could park in the parking garage underneath the hotel and that was not true. Not a big issue, but it was raining and it would’ve been nice if we could’ve just parked in the garage and not gotten wet. When we left the next day, the gate wouldn’t open. We had to wait for someone to come out and do it manually.
The location. The staff was spectacular.
Had to use valet parking but we understood why. Under construction.
Great location in downtown Portland. Gym and pool area were nice, pool was large and clean. Our room was very comfortable.
Can hear through the walls a bit, woken up by a child next door.
Comfort
I can't think of anything
There was nothing not to like. Everything was excellent, including the breakfast. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend it to anyone, and have already recommended it to one person.
As I said, there was nothing not to like.
Location near state theater was excellent. Some local food options were good. Price for location was decent. Staff was friendly. On site restaurant was decent!
Parking garage next door had steps falling apart to the point the staircase was chained off and not usable. However, it was only chained at the bottom level, so you don't know this until you've already walked down the should-be-condemned stairs. This wasn't mentioned by anyone at the hotel.
The hotel room had an empty gatorade bottle on the floor and one of the beds looked like it had either blood or makeup on the sheets. The lights above both beds didn't work nor was there a switch to turn the exhaust fan in the bathroom on.
Location to everything was fantastic and the hotel offered free shuttle service.
Had to pat for parking.
Great location, comfy beds, good service.
The parking to check is is far too small.
Far better than the average Holiday Inn, in fact, probabably better than most hotels, period.
I had a quick one night stay at the Holiday Inn Portland-by-the-bay, and man...I don't know what to say. This property probably needs to be re-branded as a higher end IHG. To be fair, I did come in an off-season but even on a points night I got a water view room that was genuinely huge.
Have you ever had a stay that left you wanting more or feeling like you'd overpaid and been overwhelmed? I had the exact opposite at the Portland Holiday Inn. I was more comfortable than I expected, more warmly treated than I expected and had a far better room than I expected.
If you're in Portland Maine and need a place to stay, I'd recomend moving a few blocks up hill off the waterfront and staying here. Exceeded my expectations greatly and I think that this is a hotel that is branded too low for the quality received.
